Realistic season predictions

IMO the main reason MN has not been very good is that they have not have had enough good players. That’s on the coaches as they are responsible for getting said players.
So why do you think so many coaches over 25 years have not been able to get “better players”? It can solely be on the coaches? Literally every coach that has left here (albeit for lower jobs or lesser conferences) have won since they’ve left here. There is a common denominator and it isn’t bad coaches

Never said solely on them, but mainly. They were not good, plain and simple.

Then why were all successful in their next stop after here? Monson won at Long Beach, Tubby won at Texas Tech, and Pitino seems to be winning at UNM? I agreed all should’ve been let go from here, but it’s not just them. It’s not as easy as so many like to make it. Whomever wins here needs to establish a culture and style that is known to here. Im not saying Ben is doing that successfully, but he’s at least trying. He’s gotta prove he can teach and develop guys now

Last 3 to 4 coaches were check cashing clock watchers. Simple as that. That’ll get it done at lower levels but not in the big ten.

So lay out the reasons, in detail for the lack of success at Mn. You’re hinting at things, say it.

Well, college basketball - especially at the D1 P5 level - is a 'star' driven sport.
to win consistently, you need star players - or you need a very balanced roster with a lot of depth.

the Gophers have struggled to get high-end talent, or to build a roster that is 8-9 deep with B1G quality players.

and coaching certainly plays a role in it as well.

this year's FR class and the incoming recruiting class have the potential to become a more competitive roster - if they can keep everyone onboard and maybe add a key transfer or two.

if the coaching staff can't pull it off, well then we'll have another coaching staff in a few years, and they can take a crack at it.

What do you think are the reasons, then? Appears you have thoughts.

Don’t the U of Mn coaching contracts have bonuses tied to minutes played by Minnesotans? Seems like minutes should be played by the best players.

As it turns out, the most pessimistic predictions were wildly optimistic.

P
What is BJ’s buyout?

Correction - here is an article:

He makes base salary of $1.95 M through 2026-27. After this year (his second year) his buyout will be 75% of his full remaining base. After next year 50% remaining…and so on.

- so with the U being cheap we could be stuck with him
Prophetic
