RB Ky Thomas transferred from MN to Kansas to Kent State to Washburn.

That's nothin'. I once told someone "The QB that PJ just got from that community college in California is going to be a stud. Just watch."
I remember going to a practice and watching the QBs run the offense on 2 min drill type scenarios.

Vic got up there and I was "uh ... nope guess not".

Everyone can have a bad day of course but it was day and night between him and his competition.

I thought AK was going to be great and that Brosmer was average at best.

Yeah, at this point you're in your mid-twenties and you know full well football isn't in your future. How much effort do you wanna put in to playing with a bunch of glorified high school athletes when no one really even cares if you win or lose?
Class of 2020 so he is likely still in his early 20s. No shame in finishing out your eligibility but hopefully he is at least preparing for life after football.

Gets really sad when you see guys hanging on years after they get done with school desperate to make it even after it is clear it just isn't going to happen for them.

I don't like admitting this, but I once said that losing Thomas will hurt more than Bucky.
I did the same. I was REALLY high on Thomas after his 1st year. Man, I was wrong there. It's amazing to see the total opposite career paths that he and Bucky have gone on since that 2021 season.

I wish him luck and a life free of “what if”. Hope he finds a passion for something besides football. Folks in this thread haven’t been too hard on him, but can anyone argue he wouldn’t have been better off staying at Minnesota? That wasn’t the last year the backfield faced major injury issues.

Yeah, he could have got plenty of action and probably been able to at least sign a practice squad contract. Mo signed one, and while he was far from Mo the runner, I think Ky would have been an option for catching passes, which would have helped.

It’s possible he just really likes playing the game.

Your post made me wonder what ever happened to Vic.

He went to UNLV eventually and played LB in 2019-2021 (Super Senior).

But in 2023 he was a QB in a Japan league. But his QB highlight does not show him passing.

LOL.....For some reason I remember watching his high school tape and thinking he was gonna win the Heisman. So I win (or lose)......

There are worse ways to spend a year of your life than playing college football, even if it is lower level.
True. A worse alternative would be playing the Japanese football league. Or in Madison.

He had conditioning issues. It was why he was in the dog house with Fleck his FR season. It was why he lost playing time to a significantly less talented but much more reliable/hard working player like Bryce Williams.

I don't think either of those things are true.

He had shoulder surgery, which kept him out his true freshman season.

Then, as a redshirt freshman (after Mo and Potts got hurt), Thomas led the team in carries (166), yards (824), and touchdowns (6). He was the team's #1 back for basically the last seven games of the season. He had five games of 100+ rushing yards in those seven games.

He was not losing any time to Bryce Williams. Bryce Williams had a total of 37 carries during that entire season and did not play in the final four games due to injury.

In fact, Ky Thomas was the MVP of the bowl win over West Virginia in Phoenix.

He transferred out a few weeks after the bowl game.

I mean, this statement sounds good in a vacuum. But if you're in your mid twenties, this is getting pretty close to putting off getting a job to go full-time on the bar softball team.

Sure....but in Ky's case he graduated from high school in 2020. Assuming he was 17 or 18 at the time of graduation then he is at most 23 now. If he wants to play another year of college football, more power to him.

I just hope he has taken advantage of this time to set himself up for life after football because a career in professional football seems unlikely to be in the cards for him.

I suppose. Maybe a year from now when he's taking orders at McDonald's someone can ask him how much fun he had playing in front of ten or twenty fans his final year lol.

Explain to us how another year of post secondary education, paid for, will lead to working at McDonald's. Add in the part about how not playing football this year would have meant a better job now.

Isn't he the one that supposedly Kansas St really wanted and Fleck turned them in for tampering? Crazy how far he's fallen. There's nothing wrong with D2 by any means, I would have just never guessed this is where he would be at this point after the freshman season he had.

You've never heard of liberal arts majors?

He'd be getting an early start to his working career. Hey, maybe his family has money and he doesn't need to care and can afford to goof off.

I saw him play in a Kansas HS playoffs game against Dylan Edwards. Equally impressive as Edwards. Not as fast but more power. I hope he's making good use of his college years and education.

So many assumptions being made. How about we assume and wish him the best.
