Random game thoughts...

Boy Iverson struggles with lay-ups. How many is that he's missed? Three? Four?

If he would just take that extra tenth of a second to make his shots, instead of slamming the ball off the back board in a manic.

Haha, I was just messing with you. He did have a pretty stupid inbounds pass.

I was listening on the radio and there was a stretch where the announcers were talking as if Ralph was kind of out of focus. I think Trevor passed an inbounds to him and he wasn't aware of it, a loose ball and he didn't go after it hard. One other thing that I don't recall. No, no blocked shots are wonderful! It was during the broadcast that I posted it. I seen on another thread rosemountain posted that he had seven blocks, which I really wasn't aware of. My post was made more in the heat of the game. Slim Tubby and I were posting back and forth for the most part. In fact right after I posted it Ralph went on a tear. :)

I'm really glad that Nolen's 3 point shot seems to be improving. It would be really nice if he could continue to knock down a few of those per game and make the other team pay for leaving him so wide open all the time.

You don't like blocked shots?

Blocked shots are a doubled edged sword. On one hand it means your bigs are being active defensively and are being a nuisance inside. BUT often times it also means someone got beat to the bucket. Personally I would take less blocked shots per game if it means playing better on the ball defense and getting beat less to the bucket.

In this day and age people are going to get beat to the bucket though. That's just the level of athleticism that is around. You need people to protect the rim at this level, which is why we're in a pretty good place defensively at this point with Sampson/Mbakwe/even Rodney.

blocked shots get the players and the crowd more pumped up and excited than 35 seconds of good position defense.

now if we can keep them all inbounds when we block them it would be better. It seems like Ralph's blocks are kept in bounds and Trevor is trying to send a message.

Kinda, I guess. It doesn't always mean someone is beat. Any way you look at it though, your team is better off when it's blocking shots. Any time you're altering shots you're making it more difficult for the team to score. It's good news that when a guy slashes to the rim we have two great shot blockers who make it fairly likely he won't make a layup.

I agree that, with decent hands, Iverson would at times be a force. But he's got one other glaring weakness that would need cleaning up. He is constantly in foul trouble and gets some really stupid fouls. You can't be a force sitting on the bench in foul trouble all the time.

Some of the fouls he gets called on him, only Colton Iverson would get that called against. The refs seem to have it in on him. Wisconsin players, with only slightly less size, play the exact same type of body-up/hands-up defense and rarely get called for fouls.

That said, when he does deserve the foul, it's usually some extra body-bump that he didn't need to do, and he should be aware of that.

Seems the refs are trying to send a message early to keep the play from getting too physical. With Colton starting, it is like he is taking those fouls so Trevor doesn't get them as part of the message.
