Random game thoughts...

"Hot Sauce" Wasabe is going to be a good player for the Pig Farmers. (Yes...I know its Basabe) :)

Mbakwe is the best pure PF we've had since James or Coffey.

Boy Iverson struggles with lay-ups. How many is that he's missed? Three? Four?

16 and 12 for Mbakwe so far...All Big 10 maybe? (More likely 2nd Team)

Iowa has Fresno State transfers, Seina recruits and a couple local products and its expects to compete in the Large Ten Conference.

Well...at least its a win. Ralph, Nolen, Blake and Trevor all with solid games. Never easy huh, friend of ray? :)

Scoring was spread out pretty good for the Gophs.....Trevor 16 and 12.....good game, Player of the game with the radio announcers

Iverson with hands = 1st team all big ten
Iverson as is = 2nd team all gopher 2010

That Siena product as a true freshmen was also the first big ten player in 15 years to put up a 20pt/10reb/5block game and did it against Jared Sullinger.

Iowa is undersized, short on bench, and with Michigan is a roster full of true freshmen and sophmores playing in a league stacked with upperclassmen laden teams. Iowa isnt a good team by any means but they hired a pretty good head coach and this season was going to be full of growing pains. Add onto it that the only PG we had on roster had to be redshirted due to a sports hernia, Gatens missed the first month of the season due surgery on his thumb, and May has been battling a groin injury you get what is the current Iowa hawkeye team. Its a major rebuilding job and I personally think Iowa is competing alright for being forced to extensively play 3 true freshmen and a JUCO transfer PG pickedup late because teh big ten decided to change the rules and allow our PG Brust out of hisLOI to go to Wisconsin. Oh did I also mention a complete change in style of play. This is a team groomed for the future. The only player w lose for next yearis Cole. It would be nice if our experienced players like Gatens and Cole decided to show some leadership but its tough to shake off the crappy coach that Lickliter was.

I definitely see the light at theend ofthe tunnel that is Iowa basketball. Problem with Iowa is we do not have a shooter or size for the 5. The two recruits we have coming in so far next year are a great shooter and an offensive minded big from Ohio with a long wingspan.

We'll take Oglesby off your hands, Herky...we might need a shooter next year worse than you guys.

Being the worst 3 point shooting team inthe big ten, I disagree.

I do like Iowa this Iowa teams future though. They do have problems but itgoes with the territory that they face.

They are very young. I think McCabe will be a very decent role player down the road but he is still very young right now. He has a decent shotbut isnt comfortable right now yet. He has work to go with his defense but he can make plays.

Marble has had some eyebrow raising moments as a true freshmen. Is he going to be his Dad? No but he has some solid size, plays a smooth game and can play a few positions. He can drive to the hoop and is an alright shooter. He will atleast be a decent role and could develop into a good #2 or 3 role for Iowa

Basabe is going to be a star and will only get better with tutelage and confidence.

Cartwright can score but he plays poor defense. That will be the goal to get down for him next year. Hes done a pretty good job for being thrust in the role.

I like May alot and Gatens can be a player but he needs to clean up his game. He pisses you off as a fan for being aJunior. Lickliterdid nothing to develop him

Its tough with this youth to competethis year in thebig ten. The conference is deep and senior laden. We dont have enough size.I do like a lot about this team andsee them moving up the stands ina few years but its just a learning process right now. A lot of youthful mistakes and little leadership. They are very streaky and the scoreless streaks are killing them right now. That and no shooters. WE need Oglesby bigtime.

I think Coach Fran has done a great job.The fans are getting into it, the team is better than they should be, and his style will attract recruits along with the upgrades to Carver. It just takes time. I do envy the athleticism that Minnesota has. If Gatens playedlike the go to guy he should, Iowa could maybe win some of these type of games. Truth is he hasnt and it kills the team. Minnesota gets offensive continuity going, and they will be a player in the big ten this year imo.

You don't like blocked shots?
I was listening on the radio and there was a stretch where the announcers were talking as if Ralph was kind of out of focus. I think Trevor passed an inbounds to him and he wasn't aware of it, a loose ball and he didn't go after it hard. One other thing that I don't recall. No, no blocked shots are wonderful! It was during the broadcast that I posted it. I seen on another thread rosemountain posted that he had seven blocks, which I really wasn't aware of. My post was made more in the heat of the game. Slim Tubby and I were posting back and forth for the most part. In fact right after I posted it Ralph went on a tear. :)

Absolutely not

You don't think that if Iverson had his exact same style of play, effort, personality......but only with ralphs hands he would be a first team all big ten center? What center would be better?

No one on Penn State, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern, or Michigan.
Not Dallas Lauderdale
Not Derrick Nix
Not Jerrod Berggren
Maybe Tisdale
If you consider JeJuan Johnson a center and not a PF he would be

I guess I didn't also think that they would probably make a 1st team all big ten team without a true center.

I agree that, with decent hands, Iverson would at times be a force. But he's got one other glaring weakness that would need cleaning up. He is constantly in foul trouble and gets some really stupid fouls. You can't be a force sitting on the bench in foul trouble all the time.

I think he gets some fouls because of instead of grabbing a rebound he fumbles his way into a foul. I think better hands would help his fouling.
