QB Controversy?

QBs 1 and 2 appear in 2013 to be workman like. its early. could be play calling could be execution.

Throwing a sub 50% rating and two picks, including the one that lost the game, is not managing the game. Managing the game is being efficient and not turning the ball over, something Nelson has struggled to do. I asked what Nelson has proved to be considered locked into the starting position and you named two games, both last year, one in which he really didn't play that well at all. If that doesn't speak volumes I don't know what does.

It sounds as if the staff is going to stick with Nelson going forward. More power to them, as they see them on a daily basis, but I would assume nothing with Nelson at this point. He's had plenty of opportunities to earn the position and he has yet to do that so far.

Phillip has thrown some good balls this season and has thrown a few bad ones as well. I think it has been more so on some of the WR not catching the ball on some of Phillip's throws. That certainly is not going to help his completion %. Add to the fact that WR's are not getting a heck of a lot of seperation, it leaves a very small window for error for a Sophmore QB.

Adressing Leidner, yes he played well, but he also made some bad throws. On that pass that Maxx Williams caught, that was moreso a great effort by Maxx than a good throw by Leidner, was an awful looking pass that Williams made a great play on.

It all comes down to, who gives us our best chance to win. I feel that that is Phillip Nelson. We do not get to see what the coaching staff sees everyday at practice. Don't get me wrong, I am happy that Leidner came out and played well to help us get the W and we have gotten him some more game experience. But, we just haven't seen enough of Leidner to make that change permanent.

I agree that what we saw from Mitch is very limited. My argument isn't so much that Mitch played a good half and therefore deserves to be the starter, it's that perhaps it's time to reevaluate why exactly it is that Philip is considered the guy by default.

Philip doesn't have much in terms of weapons around him to work with, no, but neither did Mitch and the offense moved quite well in the short time he was in there. I think a lot of the excuses made for Philip are just that, and unless his play improves drastically and quickly, this will be a moot point because the offense simply can't continue on with the limited efficiency we're getting from him.

I wasn't sure if I believed there was a legit competition between Philip and Mitch over the summer. I certainly believe it now.
