Another thing to keep in mind is that we all connect Kentucky and basketball, but overall the state of Kentucky doesnt produce a ton of players, they get them from elsewhere. Louisville produces a few like SG russell #1 sg heading to ohio st and pg Snyder #5 Espn heading to Louisville but many years they don't have a single 5* recruit.

My uncles who watched McHale in high school were very suprised by how he improved. They had no idea watching him in high school he would be a hall of fame NBA player. Hard to know sometimes who has the work ethic and mental fortitude to keep at it every day.

No. He was probably top 50 range- a little under the radar because he came from the Bahamas. From that class Olberding was rated higher and a Mickey D AA- in some services he was as high as top 5. Chad Nelson -6-11 or so was also very highly rated perhaps higher than Thompson. It took just a few games for everyone to figure out that Thompson was going to be the better player though.

Lots of Mr. Basketball's or gatorade player of the year players are quality high school players but not necessarily guys with next level ability:Hooker, Noreen, Dahlman, etc. Not all great high school players project to be the same kind of college players depending on height, quickness, etc.

Lewis and Thomas were good players but I doubt Thomas was recruited much by Kentucky. 97' Kentucky team was nat'l runner up with c mohammed, wing ron mercer, c magloire, f padgett, pg Wayne Turner. Team was stacked.

+1 I believe Elliot was not 1 but 2 time Nebraska Gatorade player of the year. I like EE and think he boards and plays D but he is no big time program changing recruit.
