Prediction on 1st MN boy in class of 2010 to commit to Gophers

You never have enough good OLs and there are always a lot of OL redshirts (or it least there used to be). I read somewhere that Olson may move to C.

Henderson is probably LT from Day One if he commits here. But there are four other positions and plenty of playing time for everybody. Plus, as I often stress: depth, depth, depth. Quality kids give you quality depth on the OL and that has been sorely lacking, even in the Mason years.

I know what your getting at with Olsen moving from what the services have him playing but he dominated at center all through high school so it wouldn't be moving at all for him. Campion will be a guard. Michel is a little lower rated player (5.5) and when I saw him he looked a bit slow and didn't dominate on a really good team. He is a tackle but by no means is he going to be as good right away as some of the guys we already have. If we get Gjere and one of the lineman or two from Wisc we will be set up pretty good even if we don't get Seantrel, but oh it would be scary good if we did!

By the time Henderson gets here there will be ALMOST no way they will start a true Fr. in the OL. Strength and maturity will not be there compared to 22-23 yr old. men.

Back to the original ?, I'll go with Edwards as he is the only one who seems high on MN right now. Second choice is a tie with Starr & the DE from Wayzata.

If MI offers Gjere he will be gone.
If USC offers Seantrel he will be gone as well.
I don't see the U getting much love from Allen right now either and I can't tell if it is just posturing or what. If Notre Dame goes after him at all then I think he is a stupid Golden Domer.

I'm sorry but this is flat out false. Henderson will likely be a starter from Day One in any program he decides to attend, and a dead-lock day one starter at Minnesota. There is a reason he's being considered a potential #1 recruit in the nation. In fact, some have said he was ready to start in college as a high school sophomore.

You OBVIOUSLY haven't seen or read much about this kid. He could walk on campus today and not even knowing the plays (just tell him you got the guy infront of you) and be so much better than anyone we had on the o-line this year.

I'm guessing Edwards is the first to commit. Hopefully we can get Allen and Gjere as well. Henderson would be the best recruit we've had...maybe ever.

First, I don't put a ton of stock into star ratings. As many have said in other threads, ratings are an inexact science. It seems you must attend camps/combines frosh or soph years to get seen, which makes sense. Or, taking linemen for example, you could get a higher rating if you're a larger than average prospect who plays for a well established, successful program in any given state. I think there's just a fraction of a difference between a 5-star and 3-star player, or even a 2-star. There are some exceptions of course. You could have a 2 star stud that's just a couple inches shorter than the 5 star and didn't hit any camps/combines, or marketed himself on recruiting sites.

Also as far as linemen go, my guess is MN would help their position of signing Henderson if they get commits, especially early commits, from Gjere 6'7, 280, Cunningham 6'5, 310 (WI) and Eggen 6'5, 290 (WI). I think that'd show Hederson that MN is indeed heading in the right direction and could become a group to make a push for a Big Ten Championship in the next few years. I realize it takes specialty players too, but I believe it all starts up front. Locking up some of the higher lineman prospects in both states may entice him to stay.

Lastly, my guess is Edwards commits first, as I don't think he's garnered quite the attention that Gjere has so far. Gjere mentioned being a "Minnesota boy" in an article on this site, so my next guess is he'll be the second commit.

I'm assuming your talking about what I said about Michel and his ratings?? he did play at a big time school in Ind. with an even more big time QB. He even had a game on ESPN this year so according to your thoughts he should be overrated...Well rivals has him at a low 3* 5.5 rating so I don't think he is getting any cushy rating. I agree with A LOT of what you said. I think Brew knows you win up front and we are getting there on the o-line now I feel the d-line needs attention.

bewscrew - why do you think gjere is a goner if michigan offers? why do you think allen is a goner if ND goes after him? just wondering if you actually had some inside info or is that just your thoughts?

i would like to see edwards commits soon as i believe if he gets to some camps he could become a hot name. i also think (hope) tobi will be the second commit. i do see gjere in minnesota but i think henderson will end up at USC if his dad has any say in it as he said that that he who he likes

No, I didn't catch that one but will search for it. I was just on a soap-box about me taking ratings w/a grain of salt. I think it's good info and opens the door for that player to get attention of colleges, but my guess is coaches don't think much about the star rating of a player right when they hit play on their DVD player and begin the assessment process.

With that said, however, I believe the star rating's of the recruiting sites are generally pretty accurate.
