I remember last time around, there was a thread where everyone made their predictions for the next coach. Even a ton of responses, I don't think any poster picked Tim Brewster.

Post on this thread who you think will be the next coach. For a little incentive, I'll give away a Who Hates Iowa? or Better Dead Than Red t-shirt to the winner.

Tie breakers - I'm guessing there will be more than one of you that predict the correct choice, if that happens, I'll give the t-shirt away to a GopherHole donor. If there are multiple donors, I'll draw one from the hat...or possibly give out a few shirts. If getting a t-shirt isn't a good enough reason to donate to GH, I don't know what is!? If you're not sure where you can give your generous donations, here's the link:

Let the predictions begin....

Mark Richt

...but Mike "F---'ing" Leach as a close 2nd.

Hoke.

I want Leach, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Hoke be the guy to accept.

The stated objective: A Tubby Smith type hire. What is that.

1. A nationaly known 'big name'
2. A fairly long resume of college success from one of the elite type programs.
3. National championship(s) on resume.
4. Hall of Fame type credentials.
5. A move that most would consider a 'step down'.
6. A coach that is probably not appreciated as much at present school.
7. High values
8. A coach from a different part of the country.
9. This would probably be his last HC job.
10. A name from 'out of the blue' that no one would have ever thought.
There is only one coach that this could be, joe paterno.

Come to Minnesota

I already know who it's going to be and I'll tell you if i was right when they announce the new head coach.

Denzel Washington... Coach Herman Boone

There is going to be a very startling outcome and not in a good way. Frankie Solich will be our coach. And yes Maturi will try to pass him off as a Tubby type hire.

There's too much pointing in Sumlin's favor to think he's not the guy.

Made me laugh. Solich was in the mix at the U several times, but not this time. I'm so old I remember when Solich was the hot coaching prospect.

Since people are saying the guys who I think it should/could/will be (Sumlin, Leach, Bellotti, Denzel, etc.), I'm going to go the other direction and say...

Marc Trestman.

If I'm right, I don't need the the T-shirt. Just point me to a convenient brick wall so that I can run my head into it 74 consecutive times.

Mike Sumlin-Patterson Calhoun Golden (nee Hohensee-Trestman)

Anyone but Sumlin or Trestman - old school tie guys with minimal head coaching experience. What a disappointment either of them would be - ditto Calhoun. Richt would be great, but where does the $8 million buyout come from? Harbaugh would be my pick with Petersen, Patterson, Leach or Bellotti equally welcome.

I want to guess one of the Stoops Brothers but I think Bob will tell them the same thing the old ball coach told him. I'll guess Bellotti.

Sumlin hired Nov 29. Leach goes to Miami wins 2 Nat'l Championships and beats ND by 40 in 2014. Shannon goes to Colorado and is fired after 4 years. Trestman wins 8 Grey Cups in a row and still can't get a real job. Bellotti takes over at Washington St and quits after 2 years. Frazier interviews with the Jags and finally gets a NFL job. However, a lockout does indeed happen and the Jags are bought by a new owner who fires Frazier.

Brady Hoke of San Diego State

While I'd prefer one of the higher profile candidates (Leach, Bellotti, Patterson, Peterson, Harbaugh, etc), I don't think we'll be willing to pay the $2.5M - $3M required to get one of those guys. Hoke, on the other hand, is only making in the neighborhood of $700k so we should be able to get him for half of what we'd have to pay my first choice (Harbaugh).

Of course, Bruininks and Maturi will say that Hoke is the guy they targeted from the beginning.

Jeff Bower. "We here at the U, feel that jeff has the skill set and past experience to bring us to the next level..." Thanks Nienas (UW grad) for assuring us of failure.

For me it is hard to predict, but it needs to be someone who has had one of the top defense in the country and can build one here.
