PP; Gophers will miss out on big 3

Source on Gopher Illustrated says there is zero chance Tyus and Rashad go to the same school. They are not close with each other, and neither wants to share the spot light with the other. If this is truly the case, I want Vaughn.

I don't think it is jealousy I think it is style of play.

Yes Tyus is a pass first PG, but he dominates the ball. Rashad is a scoring guard who dominates the ball.

Look at the Lakers, Steve Nash is a pass first PG who is now essentially a spot up shooter while Kobe has the ball.

In Boston it worked because Rondo was really the only player who needed the ball to be effective. Pierce did have to give up some of his touches though even still.

In Miami, Wade has had to give up a lot of touches for LeBron and as soon as he accepted that they won a title.

Bottom line, I don't think they dislike each other, but being on the same team one of them would have to give up touches. That's tough to do when you have an ego as all high end basketball players do and are used to being the star player.

The thing is, it feels like virtually every hiring and firing is leaked before the players know. It's just way too easy with Twitter and social media now. Probably the only way to avoid that would be to tell the players before something has actually been done, and that sounds like a bad idea IMO.

Minnesota has signed their own McDonald's All Americans in the past (Humphries, Rickert, Pryzbilla), but they have lost some as well (El-Amin, Aldrich). I do not believe any of these players were legitimate top 10 guys more like top 25 guys on these teams. I wish and hope Tyus and Rashaad would stay home but dreaming the will stay home together is almost laughable. In 2005 Kevin Love and Kyle Singler were McDonals's all americans and top 10 guys in Oregon, Love may have been #1 overall. Love chose UCLA and was one and done. Singler chose Duke and played all four years. Tyus and Rashad remind me of love's situation, whereas Reid could be a 4 year player like Singler. I hope we can keep Reid and I'll take any others. Players do not stay home anymore it is very rare.

If Tyus and Rashad and Reid go elsewhere, there are those who will bash Pitino. But that is moronic. The likelihood of getting any of them is the same now as it was with Tubby and would have been with Flip. Slim to none. These guys are gonna get offered by, well, look at your Final Four, your top 10, your top 25. Who would not listen if Duke came calling? It's a national market at the top and these kids are national recruits. Tubby or Flip or Pitino are 1 out of 10 things a kid is going to be thinking about. And the other 9 don't scream Minnesota.

But with the style of play Pitino has promised, longer term he'll hold a lot more MN kids at home that Tubby would.

Why does Mrs. Ellenson feel the need to talk the media about this? Seems like a huge cry for attention. This is the same woman that was kicked out of a game this year at EC North for dropping too many F-bombs and I have heard from more than one source that she was/is banned from the RL girls bball association because of her antics.

Holly Ellenson is the mother of Henry and Wally, who is a freshman guard with the Gophers. She was not happy the way Gophers athletics director Norwood Teague let the news of Tubby Smith's firing and Pitino's hiring get leaked through the media before telling the players.

"I feel like, the least the university can do is let the boys know what is going on," she said. "I haven't been pleased at all with that aspect of what has gone on.''

Mrs. Ellenson, forgive me, but you should be throwing an all night dance party that Tubby is gone! He wouldn't play your son, and both of your kids will enjoy playing Richie ball more than Tubby ball.

Yes, and tell both your young lads, they will be playing in the future whether they are hurt or not.

If Richard lands one of the big three, I consider it a win. If that one player is Tyus, then it will be a great win, nonetheless, any one of the big three will do. I had the same thought process for Tubby, but with a new coach, it will be a bigger win.

Mrs. Ellenson and her ex-Badger husband are well known in Wisconsin for sticking their noses where they don't belong. Anything from her my suggestion is "in one ear and out the other." Helicopter parents to the max.

Looking forward to seeing their son play next season, however. Seems like Wally would be a nice fit for Pitino's style

Oh ya, I played against Wally and Ellwood in high school in the BRC and you always know where mom and dad are in the gym as soon as the first whistle is blown.

Pitino Jr. better get his big boy recruiting pants on and get to work fast...even if he's late to the party, missing out on all these kids would still make him look bad.

BigShotBlake and Selection Sunday: Why do you continue to take "cheap shots" at the Ellenson family? How is that going to help us going forward as we try to recruit her other son to play for the Gophers? Obviously both parents are big Gopher basketball fans. They also care about their sons and I think she made a valid point in an earlier comment regarding Teague. You may not agree with her, but you don't have to take the family to task on a bulletin board like this one. Take the "high road" and let's try to do what we can to support each other as we try to help Patino attract top level talent to the Minnesota Gophers. I wish both her and her family well and hope they remain big Gopher fans for years to come. I am also glad that you are a passionate fan and hope you remain one for years to come too. I have been a fan for over 55 years and am still passionate about all Gopher athletics and will remain so until the day I die. I'm don't want to argue with you on this board, I just want all who post to "work together" to make good things happen. Thank you. :)

Welcome to the board Mrs. Ellenson. I bet your antics embarrass the s$$$ out of Wally.

Mrs. Ellenson comes off as a very nice person to me. Maybe some of us should relax a little bit.

Fair enough, Bud.

What a joke Parski. If he misses all three- that is no commentary on him whatsoever. If Tubby had any or all in the bag he probably would have his job right now. But he was lazy and uninspiring to these kids- that much is obvious. They liked him as a man and respected him but didn't necessarily want to play for him.

The one standard for Pitino is to sign a really nice fall class. I hope it includes one or more of the Big 3 and I think it might. However, if he gets a strong class and they come from all over the USA and become god Gophers- I'm good with that.

Thank you Mr. Grant
The Ellenson family are great supporters of Gopher basketball and we should welcome and encourage them. It is true the team members only heard about Coach Smith's firing and the hiring of Coach Pitino from their twitter accounts. No word from the basketball administration.

A.) I do not necessarily believe we should be taking players' parents to task on a message board.

B.) I do not know the Ellenson's or any stories of them, however, your actions do lead to a perception. It is not the duty of posters to protect the family image; they should do that on their own with the choices they make.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. I think I understand what you are saying regarding protecting the family image.

Welcome to the forum Bud. Your maturity and civility are much needed and appreciated here!

People hear stories about players parents, much of them are embellished. Wally's parents obviously want the best for their kids. John Ellenson is a great guy. People should try and stick to facts.

Heres what will happen ... all three deny us and pitino gets good recruits anyway. Win win
