Potts is simply electing to find a place where he has a chance to be lead back rather than waiting on the sidelines in case someone gets hurt.
 


Guessing Fleck picks up someone from transfer portal after spring practice for what he perceives is an area of need.

IMO Potts would benefit from a place he gets the ball and the play is a straight full speed run to a given hole.

When Potts had to studder step and find holes like Mo has such a gift for he doesn’t do as well.

Yes. Transfer from WMU, going to eat 10-12 carries. Zach Evans redshirt freshman from large class TX can ball. Darius Taylor true freshman and Michigan tried to swoop in late- absolute beast and should be primary ball carrier by end of year.

Bryce Williams will not see the field except spot duty early in first ~4 games.

Short-sighted to think a 6th year Williams - who is easily our best blocking back - won't see the field in most games.

Addition by subtraction works. Mo Ibrahim getting drafted will open a lot of RB eyes. Competition is at a great level.
 

Not that this matters but now that Potts is transferring, anyone know what he was dealing with medically last year? Was that announced or is it still unknown, and yes I do know about HIPAA.
 





i take this as PJ is being honest with them with where they stand heading into next year. thankful for what the guys both contributed here and wish them nothing but the best.
 

I wish them luck wherever they go and thank them for their contributions, but these are two good scholarships to free up.

Agreed, Williams is good pass catcher and blocker, I doubt anyone replaces him as 3rd down back, unless it is 3rd and short. Thank you to Potts and MBS for being Gophers, and good luck.

Agree. Potts is a gas and go kind of back whereas Mo, was, well Mo. He needed but a mere crack or sliver and somehow found ways to squirt through. With the strength of a Belgian draft horse, he didn't need much to plow his own trail.

Bryce is also very good on blitz pick-ups, so if the freshman/transfer are not quite that good, you will possibly see him on passing 3rd downs.
 

I feel like Potts was just rounding back into form at the end of last season. He's gonna be a good pickup for someone.

But I think Tyler/Crooms will be upgrades from Potts/MBS

I don’t know, I think I’ll disagree. The best games for Potts came in the first half of the season, then he kind of fell off the cliff. His last three games:

5 carries, 13 yards
2 carries, 2 yards
9 carries, 27 yards

But it wasn't even a half of the season thing. He had good games, in terms of average yards per carry, against the weak opponents. Otherwise, he was mostly a non-factor.

We knew there were going to be more transfers and there two are not all that shocking given who we have brought in from the portal. MBS would most likely have been very buried on the new WR depth chart and Potts was likelhy going to have to fight for a handful of carries in the RB room.

Hopefully both find a good landing spot as they seemed like good guys.
 

Or did they bring in Crooms and Spencer because they knew that MBS and Wright were long gone, and have known for a while. But for some bizzare reason, they waited to enter the transfer portal until March, instead of in Jan???

Football players are only allowed to actually enter the portal in Dec/Jan or May.


The transfer windows, which will go into effect in time for the 2022-23 season, will allow 60 days per year for athletes to enter the portal and maintain immediate eligibility for first-time transfers. For fall sports like football, the period will be split into two periods. The first, a 45-day period, will start the day after championship selections are made. A second window will be instituted from May 1-15 so players can enter the transfer portal after spring camp.


So, the OP can only be one of two things:

- it's just coming to light now, somehow, that these two entered the portal in the Dec-Jan window
- it's coming to light that they will enter the portal in the May window.


They can't have just entered the portal now in March. That's not allowed anymore. At least not if they want to be eligible this fall, which obviously they do.

Pretty simple for them to just throw it out to the world that they intend to enter the portal in May and then at that point it's just procedural. Obviously they can't join the new team until it becomes official, but they can at least start the process of finding their new home.
 

The first step in the actual, official process is entering the portal.

You’re not “supposed” to have contact with schools until you’re in.

Fair enough. But as long as the player has made their intention to transfer clear to the their current school nobody is going to give a crap if that player starts having contact with other schools.

Maybe we hit a point here in the fairly near future when the portal is more regulated and the windows are more strictly enforced. But for right now things are still very wide open.
