It seemed to me that the officiating crew was the most mediocre product out on the field. It started off when the officials tried to call Syracuse fumble as down by contact. I don't think I've ever seen something so ludicrous in my life.

If you watch the holding call they made on Plsek in the last three minutes of the game you can see that the defender grabbed Plsek's jersey and pulled Plsek down on top of him. Plsek never held him, but the officials made the call and it was a HUGE turnaround to stall Gopher momentum. Of all the people out on the field last night I'd give a big F to the officiating crew. Did those boys come right over from the high school fields???

What?

Not sure what you were watching, but Plsek had a handful of jersey and it was an obvious hold (something that goes on in the interior line most plays, but Plsek was was uncovered so the ref could see it.)

Have you rewatched it? Plsek gets his hands inside for good leverage and when the d-lineman gets spun around and falls down he grabs Plsek's jersey and pulls Plsek down close to him as he falls, making it look like Plsek was holding when Plsek was in fact trying to release from the contact. It was a tricky move by the D-lineman that worked in his favor. Bad call by the officials, which wasn't unusual because they were overwhelmed most of the game.

I don't have a problem with the Plsek call. Sometimes it is called, sometimes it isn't. I didn't like the Campion call however. If I remember correctly, the ref who threw the flag had his back to Campion until the end and all he saw was him pushing the defender to the ground. If he can't hear the whistle, what is he supposed to do? And yeah, that down by contact call early on was one of the most ridiculous calls I've ever seen.

I am a little surprised how much people are jumping on Nelson and not much on Leidner. Remember Leidner fumbled and didn't look good at all in the first half as well. The only time he even looked somewhat good was late in the game when the offense as a whole started to click. Leidner also took several bad sacks. I'm not saying Nelson played good by any means, I just don't think Leidner played much better. We also don't know what Nelson would have done when the offense was playing better in the late 3rd/4th. Cobb was running the ball better and that helped open up the passing game some in my opinion.

Officiating by the SEC group was poor.

That call on offensive pass interference on Wolitarsky was lousy,I have seen much more egregious fouls not called in the NFL and College game, and all Wolitarsky did was bring his arms up to fight for the football he didn't really extend fully and push off to gain an advantage which is the definition of pass interference. The 15 yard call of Campion for a personal foul was lame too, he was finishing his block and still engaged when the whistle blew, I don't think either player heard the whistle and there really wasn't anything malicious about the play.

If Nelson really had a shoulder injury than that explains a lot about the targets being so far off, he still needs to work on his footwork. He is more than capable of being the quarterback of this team, he just needs to get his confidence back and he needs to somehow figure out who on the offensive line he can trust to pick up and slide the protections correctly you could tell we missed Baak and Christensen's experience last night. Hopefully both come back and have healthy Junior and Senior seasons.
Offensive line and the running backs need to get on the same page they were bringing a wide nine blitz all night and we did not adjust and pick it up. Instead of chipping or hitting the edge rusher for some reason the left tackles kept blocking down the line, there seemed to be a lack of communication between the backs and the line on who was supposed to pick up the blitzes especially the man coming free.
Defensive line there must have been a reason coach Phelps seemed to be giving them speeches and trying to bring something out of them because last night that group just didn't have a lot of energy or passion for the game. Phelps looked like he was imploring his players to do more or do anything to disrupt Hart but for some reason they just did not have it last night.
Thought the secondary as a whole had a good night and played and covered about as well as they could.

Just think about it the Gophers football team played one of there worst games of the last 4 to 5 games of the season with a back up quarterback and they still nearly beat Syracuse on talent and some good effort in the fourth quarter.
If we could have gotten a little more effort in the third quarter or a few more creative play calls to bring some energy or rythem to the offense things might have changed. The defense played to much football again, they are not quite built to yet to be able to throw shutouts.
Wasn't Maxx Williams a high school quarterback? How about a Wildcat formation with Max moving to the quarterback spot and faking the run and then a throw back pass to Leidner or Nelson, he is a great athlete and a playmaker they have to design more ways to get the ball in Maxx's hands when he get's the ball good things happen. Wouldn't even mind seeing Maxx Williams get a chance to run some wild cat and run some people over. The guy is a playmaker and needs the ball even more.
Next years schedule is a gauntlet and is going to be tough, Gophers are going to need even more depth and younger guys stepping up next year. There were some pretty good seniors this year that made a lot of plays, now it is the next man ups chance to step in to that role as the coach would say. Still think good things are on the horizon for the Gophers, they just need to learn to finish and step on an opponents throat when they get the down. Cannot continue to let victory's get snatched away. Go Gophers

I thought Syracuse was a very solid team, except for their lame secondary. Solid QB, solid RB, solid receivers, good OL.

The newspaper stated there were only several thousand fans in attendance. I have a feeling that one fact alone set the mood for the game. Low energy. Imagine how odd and out of sorts the players felt playing in that environment. I sensed that they just couldn't get excited and I can't blame them. We were a team that thrived on emotion and inspiration this season. We clearly outperformed our talent level in beating Nebraska and Penn St.

It's painfully obvious that we lack a core component to a great team. And that component is a middle-of-the-field, mid-range passing game. If you watch every other bowl team, their quarterbacks regularly make line-drive throws in the interior of the field to specific spots on the field. Apparently our coaches don't feel our QBs can do that, and it seems to me they're probably correct. Until we get a more sophisticated and varied offense, and a QB on the order of at least Connor Cook, I think we'll have trouble moving up any further in the B1G. Christian Hackenburg as a freshmen is better than any senior QB we've had at Minnesota in years. As I see it, a team can only go so far without a terrific QB. I admire and love Nelson and Leidner and want only the best for them, but they need to be developed more. Admittedly, I have no idea if this is a matter of talent or tutelage. Something tells me it's the latter.

Someone asked where was Wells…injured…rumor is Nelson was pulled because of a shoulder injury (which would explain the quick yanking)…may explain those absolutely awful passes…Wolitarsky played well, 91 yards, I'll take that any day. Where were our seniors? It was disappointing but we are a young team. We lose Engel on offense but no one else on the 2-deeps. We lose more on defense but we redshirted a lot of players this year and have a solid group coming in. Great strides this year…unfortunate to end with such a poor effort but it'll leave a bad taste and these kids will learn to get motivated for all games..
Remember early in the game the Cuse dlineman jumped offsides unimpeded to Nelson and threw him down on his shoulder/neck? I thought they should have blown the whistle to stop that play. If they did blow the whistle it should have been a personal foul. Nelson played poorly and may have been hurt.

First time poster, I was at the game with my family. Let me first say it's always fun to be surrounded by the Gopher family, great people. Now, some observations, the refs were certainly mediocre at best. Gophers came out very flat. Made me wonder how much the coaches drilled into the guys to have some pride. I mean you work so hard all year, where is your personal pride to come out and win? Hageman to me is not going to make it until he stops believing the hype about him. He has the size and talent to play on par with Clowney or Shalique Calhoun but I don't think he has the fire. So many plays he seems to be just going through the motions. Need a team leader to step up and say enough of the mediocrity, time to become beasts and win!!

How they let that play go without blowing the whistle or a flag is beyond me.

That was a dirty shot by the Syracuse D-lineman and a horrible play, he knew he was offsides and the rest of the players stopped even Nelson and the Cuse lineman
drills Nelson in the ground. Not only a d!ck move one that seemed intentional on his part. Hopefully what goes around comes around and some offensive lineman cheap shots
him next year. Refs were bush league for not throwing the personal foul flag on that play.
