Just to get things rolling, let me say this...
1) We can't pin the loss on Wolitarsky. It was one mistake; a big one, but many others were made from different players as well. (Including the coaching staff)
2) What I thought was going to be a fantastic season ended on a very bad note. So I'm disappointed. Not the season I had in mind a month or so ago.
3) We will be absolutely fine heading into next season. It's going to be hard to forget about this one, but next year will be a very telling year. (Hopefully a successful one)

Very, very disappointed in the seniors. Hageman made some plays, but nothing special. Vereen had a chance to make a play in the 4th quarter and missed. Aaron Hill whiffed on the 4th down play that would have stopped Syracuse from scoring.

QB consistency is the biggest question mark and will continue to be so. So disappointed in this performance. If we just play average in the first half, we win.

Not feeling good about QB situation in 2014. Too spent to think beyond that. What a disappointing night.

True you can't blame the loss on Wolitarsky, but man, the guy has been dropping passes all season. I still have no idea what the coaches see in him. Being a Freshman isn't an excuse -- if you can't catch, put on a red shirt and sit your first year.

Really disappointing to see an unprepared team take the field today.

Wolitarsky would have red shirted if Harbison was healthy and MacDonald was playing. He'll be fine because he can get open and caught almost everything in high school. And our QBs aren't the easiest to catch from.

Is this a joke? Sure he drops passes but he's also the only WR who seems to be getting open. Doesn't matter if a guy can catch the ball if he cant' get open.

It was an unfortunate drop but it wasn't an easy catch either.

As I've said, the drop today doesn't bother me about Wolitarsky -- his drops throughout the season have been a real cause for concern.

Yeah, I thought the seniors didn't bring much to the table.

We still need upgrades at the "athlete" positions. Syracuse's guys seemed to be a step faster all night long.

One of these guys needs to take a massive developmental step in the off season and seize the job next year. Right now we have two guys that look good from time to time but overall are just not getting it done with any sort of consistency. During the winning streak Nelson looked like he could be the guy....tonight Leidner showed flashes that maybe it is him....

Realistically we need both of them to be serviceable but we need one of them to be the guy that takes charge of the position.

Nice to see the effort and comeback to take the lead. Sure was disappointing to see us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory for the second straight bowl game, however. I would love to see Gopher football teams learn how to put the hammer down at the end of games. This was certainly a very winnable game for us and we gave it away. Somehow we have to change that mindset. Somehow...

So many problems.

1) 13 of our last 14 quarters this season with no offensive touchdowns
2) Horrible 2 minute drill execution. In the first half, we had 2 timeouts and 4+ minutes, and we would have had to settle for the field goal even if we got the first because we were out of time. Then 74 seconds and 2 timeouts and the best look we get at the end of the game is two prayers from the 40?
3) Punt coverage. How the hell do we allow that big return in that situation?
4) Not going to let Drew off the hook for that drop. Winners catch a ball that hits them in the chest in that kind of situation.

Leidner should be our QB next year. Nelson has proven he isn't the guy. Our O-Line has some improvements it has to make, and I'd like to see Pirsig start next year. I also hope Christenson gets healthy. Coaching staff also has to improve their defensive play calling.

I still think it all came down to QB play. Just 13 of 30 passing and a lot of bad decisions. How many sacks did we take? Hunt just made a lot more plays than Nelson/Leidner.

Poorly coached and prepared. The entire team slept walked through the first three quarters. Nelson should never take another snap for this team. He has no leadership and plays like a scared kid.

With a month to prepare this offense looked no different than the team that had gone without an offensive TD for several quarters. The all out blitz call at the end of the game was silly and reckless. Drop back and make the guy, make a throw.

Without some key defensive guys next year and this same pathetic offense this team will be much worse and Kill will be back on the hot seat.

I really like McKinzy, but can't imagine starting a true FR - even if enrolled early. That leaves 3 options - one of which is a rFR that missed practice most of the year with a broken hand. That may leave us with 2 legit options and I'm not convinced either is legit. I have been behind PN9 all year - today was real bad tho. Mitch looked good tonight, but his limitations are painfully obvious.

I disagree. Putting pressure on Hunt was the only thing that worked all night. The mistake was the defenders jumping/leaving their feet. That was undisciplined and opened up the run.

From my perspective, poor tackling was the main reason we lost this game. Way too many Orangeman bouncing off of arm tackles.

I agree. The call was fine. The fact that guys didn't stay in their lanes and make a play was the bigger problem.

It was a very disheartening game.

With the exception of the Michigan game (for obvious emotional reasons), I felt the kids turned the corner this year by playing hard, with enthusiasm and conviction, every play in every game. Not always possessing the talent needed to win. But never short on competitiveness.

Except tonight. I saw a team that, for whatever reason, expected to win without exhibiting the edge it takes to do so. As if they had arrived, accomplished something, that would make Syracuse simply roll over.

This is on not just the players - I would say this is the worse game prep and in game coaching Kill and his staff provided all year. The play calling, the QB ying/yang, the atrocious clock management - just a really poor coaching job today.

Going to be a very critical off season. Somehow, we are going to need to develop a passing game to give us some balance offensively. And we still have lots of work to do in the secondary. Because our schedule is tougher next year.

A solid victory tonight would have made me more optimistic. But I will continue to support the team and hope for the best.

Disappointing end tonight. Still proud of my 2013 Gophers.

The game was basically a mess from start to finish. The QBs as a group are not very good period. Could change heading into next year, but at this point, that looks like a stretch. Cobb was good when he needed to be, but wasn't utilized very well. Wolitarsky was okay, but noting special; caught a deep ball for a touchdown but also nullified one with a needless offensive PI. Also dropped a game-winner. Hopefully Maxx Williams is okay because he's probably the only reliable receiver on the active roster at the moment.

Secondary played very poorly and the tackling overall was shoddy at best. Offensive line wasn't completely awful although their blitz pickups left a lot to be desired. Defensive line was less than stellar as well. Overall, an extremely poor effort and performance all the way around. Expectations should be tempered by everyone associated with Gopher football after what we just saw.

I don't see that as Wolitarsky's fault unless you say he should have out-jumped the defender. The defender had a clear path to deflect the ball and I'm guessing Wolitarsky expected it to be redirected. I think the defender even bumped into him (legally) pushing the pass into his midsection instead of his hands. Full-speed, that's a tough ball to catch.

I have facts on my side and gopher hole deletes my post. Classy. Let's correct a wrong with a wrong. #fringebowlteam

You must have a pretty big head if you think it was deleted solely because on your post.

they had short, strong runners.. they 'bounce' easily since they dont have much of a target.

Disappointing. No other way to put it. This ruined my entire day/night.

I missed the first half totally, and part of the second half. What happened to Nelson? Did he get hurt, or was he ineffective and replaced by Leidner?

We have a lot of wanting with the dismal offense in general. QB play is critical going into next year, but who will be the man? We need a cerebral QB with quick release and accuracy.

Punt coverage stunk in the last Syracuse possession. That was a killer that cost us the game.

they had a great D line... very quick.. held Cobb down for 3 1/2 quarters by putting us in 2nd and 3rd and long

we had a chance late to run it down their throats.. cobb goes for 12 but then it is called back because of holding..

ballgame.

Perra.

I am really disappointed in this loss. They had the nice run of four wins, then lost two games to legitimate teams - nothing to be ashamed of. I felt this team was strong, coming together and showed promise. Now, it's an off-season where my last impression is a game with two mediocre (poor) teams and the Gophers being the worst of the two.

I should probably wait to post, but feel this was a disheartening effort (if that is even English). Tough to come away optimistic from this.
