Post Game Thread: Gophers Lose Disappointing Game at Rutgers

We are no better than Rutgers, though.
You can’t mail it in Rutgers played three times hard than us all game. I thought the only guy who gave max effort for us was 45. It was disappointing and I couldn’t imagine today would’ve turned out that way. Pretty much the whole team including coaches should’ve just never got on the plane.

Brosmer showed that he was human today one positive takeaways the fact that he didn’t get killed. We could’ve lost him for the season with some of those DL running free and blasting him. He was a stitch off all game, but hell I certainly would’ve been in his shoes with the pressure faced.

Did anyone else think we could have easily blocked a punt, but our guy let up and seemed to ignore the punter and ran towards the three blockers instead?

I wasn’t able to watch the 2nd half, but 12 rush attempts by your rb’s is malpractice in a game you were leading in the 3rd quarter. Way too many pass attempts on 1st down. You have to establish some semblance of a run, especially with the backs you have.

That said, I thought from the start of the year they’d lose to Rutgers, but this Rutgers team is injured and not good. College football is crazy though, it doesn’t mean they can’t beat Penn St.

Defense was bad in the first half made Athan look like a superstar. Played much much better in the second half but the facemask by Joyner when we had the stop on 3rd down was a back-breaker.

Offensive line was awful all game....just brutal.
Brosmer didn't have a great day and missed some throws he is capable of making
Turnover by Geers was a killer.

Felt we would win this game comfortably if we played well but we didn't do that today. Margin for error is always going to be slim and you can't make that many killer mistakes on the road and expect to win.

Very disappointing game heading into the second bye week. Get rested and healthy, flush this one and then go out and try to upset Penn State. Going into this 3 game stretch I thought we needed to go at least 2-1....got that done just not in the way I expected.
I couldn't have said it better. The facemask by #17 was a real killer; wasn't that the second one in two weeks?

Poor mental and physical preparation, plus lack of good team play leads to collapse of in game composure, and a loss. For the 10th game of the season the amount of mental mistakes and inability to finish plays was disappointing. The other team wanted to win, Gophers showed up thinking they would win.

Taylor is clearly not 100%. Should have seen more Major.

Blown assignments and complete whiffs on blocks, pathetic.

Dissapointing day. Rutgers was more physical, played with urgency and determination. Gophers seemed a step slow all day. Turnovers and penalties killed us. The Jah hands to the face was the back breaker. The O-Line was bad. Brosmer, DT we’re off.

I’m sad to see an opprutunity wasted. We could have made a separation into the upper tier of the B1G. Let’s rest up the next few weeks put this behind us and get after it against Penn State and Wisco! I’m still rowing!

Disappointing, but sometimes that's the way college football is. Miami dropped one to Ga Tech; Iowa St dropped one to now 3-6 KU.

Gophers aren't good enough to make mistakes & expect to win. Not many teams in the Big Ten are (probably Oregon & OSU are it). I thought the D settled down after the initial 3 drives. The Jah facemask really flipped things. Rutgers didn't score on that drive, but it flipped the field which started the slide.

AK outplayed Brosmer, but I don't know if that was the difference in the game. Difference to me was their D-Line vs. MN's OL & they were able to have some success running the ball where MN had nothing.

Rest up & get ready for the stretch run. 2-0 would be really nice; 1-1 would be ok.

Iowa against UCLA is another one to add to your list.

Margin between teams is so slim....if one team executes better than the other team more often then not they are going to come out ahead. Rutgers made more plays than we did today....it sucks and is really frustrating but it happens.

Just a side note.....but really is a game of inches. On their 4th down TD in the first half Lindenberg just missed knocking the ball down. I mean he was right in the throwing lane and somehow the ball found its way through.

Stinky game. Lose the ones we should win so that means we'll win the ones we should lose. Going to beat PSU and Wisconsin. Heading to a warm weather bowl. Ski U Mah

A 5-4 team just beat a 6-4 team.

Not exactly surprising. The 4 game win streak was nice, but didn't mean much
Exactly. Both middle of the road teams. Play them ten times, it might well end up 5-5.

PJ deserved a lot of blame for the UNC loss, but it's hard for me to put today's loss on the coaches. Who played well today? No one.

As good as AK played in the first half, he did nothing in the second half. Rutgers didn't win this game, the Gophers lost it.
Disagree.
Why the insistence on throwing deepish repeatedly when it wasn't working? Mn offense did nothing and they made very little if any adjustments.

Yearly loss to Big Ten peer (or near peer) in a game where we are favored due to offensive shortcomings/mistakes. That said, the defense was passive for a half; the PI calls were capricious and arbitrary and we had a fumble & interception in our hands, that we didn’t corral—allow an inferior team to stay in the game & bad things happen. It takes the starch out of the season, very sadly.

Yes, I was thinking about that when he did this one. If one is going to pull a face mask at least do it when it's a critical situation (like stopping a touchdown run). Why do that to an offensive lineman?

You are correct. This team is just not good enough to play poorly and beat a decent opponent. I think we all knew that weeks ago but the last 4 weeks made many of us believe the Gophers could just keep walking the tightrope.

Not a great game today. But let’s remember, Gopherhole is the bastion of overreaction. The idiots who said we were done after the Iowan and Michigan are the same as the idiots who proclaimed this team amazing after the 4 wins in the row.

We need to bounce back against PSU or Sconny and it is a good season.
