Been a lot of instances of planting flags on a team's logo lately. NC State and Florida were the two I read about yesterday. Multiple confrontations.... Michigan/OSU, Army/UTSA, etc. Needs to stop or have coach put his foot down. Might take a lengthy suspension or pulling a scholly. Even with the personal foul yesterday that left things a little dicey for awhile, PJs kids NEVER do this and I dare say that the one who would try would be gone quickly. Nothing wrong with competition, but represent your school better - or dont have the opportunity to. My rant....

The flag thing is just tacky. I don't know if any of those games have a trophy but if they don't maybe they need one because that gives the winning team something to focus on without looking for ways to be jackasses to the other team.

On the coaches to make sure the players know that kind of BS won't be tolerated. Honestly can't picture a Fleck coached team behaving like that. And it really is on the coach.

When I coached youth sports one of the biggest things I put an emphasis on right away with my players was that in the post game handshake you say good game and nothing else. If a player acted like a moron there were consequences at the next game.

No players should ever be fighting with anyone!!!! Not tolerated, period.

Many are giving all the blame for the ugly situation on OSU. Their team should not have been fighting (I did like the M flag being torn off...), but Michigan started the whole thing by trying to plant the flag on the OSU logo. I know they did it in 2022, but it is just very disrespectful and is asking for trouble. Just like when Wisc interfered with the Gopher players singing the rouser to chop down the goal post years ago.

I don't understand the concept of "disrespect" leading to fighting and violence. If this had been outside the stadium, it would have likely culminated in murder.

I guess it's a "cultural thing" that an oldster like me doesn't get. You disrespect me and I get to kill you.

Both respect and disrespect are earned.

Personally, I'd be completely fine if they got rid of the entire flag planting thing but that said, I think it's clear that the line is crossed when you fight.

Some celebrations are okay as long as they are taunting? Planting the flag is too far but playing Jump Around is okay? Is fake stomping on the logo okay? Clearly showing your abs in what could arguably be called a simulation holstered weapon is WAY too far.

My whole point is that we all probably have different lines in the sand that we'd draw with this stuff. I think the cleanest way to regulate this is to just draw the line at the fighting. Ohio State should have went to the locker room and ignored it. For better or worse, it's part of college football now and it's a part Ohio State has also taken part in. I liked Billy Napier's response, I wouldn't want my team to do that stuff, but the big issue is fighting.

If referring to the Gophers win in 2021 for playing Jump Around, don't think that's apples to apples. First, it was at the home stadium. Second, Sconnie was off the field. And third, it was fans of course with the team.

Given Sconnie's history there might be other instances of egregious Jump rudeness but I wouldn't count TCF 2021 as the same as the visiting team planting their flag in the middle of the home loser's field. That said, the Fox TV guys did call it "world class trolling" so if the label fits wear it.

I think the flag planting thing is hilarious. Play better and show some fight on the field if you don't want it happening on your field.

Predictably the national media and announcers are overblowing it and getting their panties in a bunch.

It's rivalry week, things get heated. This is football and nobody got hurt. Heaven forbid some emotions spill out postgame.

I wouldn't either, my point is that people will disagree about where a line is. I agree with you, it was a home game and it was light hearted trolling. That said, I know some Badger players took exception to it.

Exactly. The rivalries are what we love about college football. Plant the damn flag anywhere you want imo.

The whole thing is dumb but in the case of planting the flag on the other teams logo nothing good can come of that and it needs to stop. The home team shouldn't react to it but if the other team is intentionally disrespecting your logo the reality is that players are going to respond to it and with athletes that are already amped up it can easily lead to violence.

Be a good winner, celebrate appropriately on the field, shake hands with the other team and then go whoop it up in the locker room with your teammates. Not that hard.

To be fair, Ohio State kinda started whole flag battle.

Now that college players are pro we can start fining them for this behavior. Bet it stops pretty quickly.

Once players are given a salary of some kind it will be interesting to see if fines are used as a form of discipline, would make sense and probably be very effective.

NFL players making millions might not care about a fine. College kid making much less on the other hand may be very motivated not to have to pay out.

Make the fine 1% of NIL funds collected for that season. Fair to those with high bucks and low bucks alike. If no NIL, then must have another mechanism as there is no blood to squeeze from that rock.

Lost players in the line-up are usually found on Senior Day. I find that I go "who?" every year for a handful going through the ceremony.
Yeah I need to proof stuff after typing on my phone!

People getting mad about this (looking up video on their phone)

Are we not entertained? There are people out there that find football itself barbaric. I agree with Bob. I think we can all agree the WWE meets Boyz n da hood jawing and posturing crap is incredibly dumb, uncouth, and beneath the pedigreed gentlemen in the university-bred class and some sort of penalty should be applied, preferably to the next game. There are probably some overreactions to all this. Give coaches incentive to shut this down. Fines would need to really hurt, none of this 50K garbage. Or, decide this is entertainment, luckily nobody was seriously hurt, and accept kids at every level lose their cool at times (not that that’s ok, but inevitable). If Day started whaling on Moore, that would be pretty scandalous, and unexpected.

I think the flag planting is poor sportsmanship.

So is the disproportionate response.

All sport has turned into a cross between WWE and UFC. The posture has become as important as the result.

What happened at the Army/UTSA game? I must have missed that one.
