PJ vs Nebraska

No one brings up the '83 game any more.
Funny you should say that. I took my cousin to the game last night. He is more of a casual fan, lives outstate, and this was his first ever game at the bank. As it was becoming more and more obvious this was going to be yet another win over Nebraska, we talked about 1983 and what would we say back then if someone would have visited us on that day to tell us that one day the Gophers would absolutely own Nebraska.

Just hard to fathom.

One of my buddies has the box score and stats bookmarked in his phone because he thinks it's one of the funniest things he's ever seen. And when you pore over the details, I've gotta admit it's pretty funny! I also did not yet exist in 1983, so I apologize to those who still have PTSD from that game lol

Goldmember was at that game! (Though, barely old enough to remember)
What is easy to forget about Gopher Football in the early 80’s is that a huge share of the fan base back then (now dead) had experienced, during their childhood or college years, the dominance of the Bierman era. And that was a dominance on the level of Saban’s Alabama. Also, the programs
had won another NC just 23 years earlier. Everyone knew Nebraska was good. But there was also great hope among the older fans that Minnesota could become a dynasty again.

The fact that Nebraska was so good back then just led to a sort of “if they can do it, we should be able to too” reaction.

What made it worse was the game was broadcast on WTCN channel 11 which I think was ABC or unaffiliated at the time before the network swap with KSTP. There were a lot of witnesses.

Swaggerson was there as well. I think the whole Nebby crowd went to 7 corners after the game. Grandmas was intolerable!

I waited too late to take a picture of that. I kept getting interrupted by others wanting me in their selfies.

Anyway holding them to like 218 yards of offense is incredible.

Although not a Gopher fan yet...still a Georgia Bulldog...experienced Nebraska in the 1989 48-7 debacle. That alone was enough to make me not care about Minnesota Football until Mason was hired...who of course was Georgia's coach for one week in 1995 or so before changing his mind and staying at Kansas (terrible decision in a number of ways).

Still, been a Gopher first and Bulldog second since Mason took over where the Gophers lost to the Rainbow Warriors 17-3 in Mason's debut game from Honolulu. Tough to watch, but it's better now...like last night. Ski U Mah.
