PJ vs Nebraska

I was a kid in the '90s and '80s. If you would have told me we are going to beat Nebraska seven times in a row later on in life, I would have s*** my pants laughing at you as that was never going to happen. I still don't believe it just happened.

No one brings up the '83 game any more.
Funny you should say that. I took my cousin to the game last night. He is more of a casual fan, lives outstate, and this was his first ever game at the bank. As it was becoming more and more obvious this was going to be yet another win over Nebraska, we talked about 1983 and what would we say back then if someone would have visited us on that day to tell us that one day the Gophers would absolutely own Nebraska.

Just hard to fathom.

One of my buddies has the box score and stats bookmarked in his phone because he thinks it's one of the funniest things he's ever seen. And when you pore over the details, I've gotta admit it's pretty funny! I also did not yet exist in 1983, so I apologize to those who still have PTSD from that game lol

Goldmember was at that game! (Though, barely old enough to remember)
What is easy to forget about Gopher Football in the early 80’s is that a huge share of the fan base back then (now dead) had experienced, during their childhood or college years, the dominance of the Bierman era. And that was a dominance on the level of Saban’s Alabama. Also, the programs
had won another NC just 23 years earlier. Everyone knew Nebraska was good. But there was also great hope among the older fans that Minnesota could become a dynasty again.

The fact that Nebraska was so good back then just led to a sort of “if they can do it, we should be able to too” reaction.
