Do you think he told the fan(s) at FIU that he was going to come within 3 points of the NCAA tourney?
I wish he would have said it was the best shooting team he's ever had....
I heard he said his goal was to get the #9 seed in the Big Ten tournament by his 6th year.

He's saying the NCAA tournament is unrealistic that's below accepting mediocrity. What does this quote have to do with "accepting mediocrity"?
What is your handle on the Tech board?

You're the head coach of a Big Ten school (where your predecessor was fired for making the Tournament 50% of the time), and making the Tournament is "pretty unrealistic"? If that's not "accepting mediocrity", what is? Hell, that's "accepting less than mediocrity". Tubby would have been DESTROYED if he ever said anything like this.
So because I think Tubby got a raw deal, that means I'm not a Gopher fan anymore?
How is the NCAA tournament not realistic? For those who haven't been paying attention, "accepting mediocrity" is settling for last year's results being the best anyone can do at Minnesota. It has nothing to do with realistic expectations for the coming season considering the state of the roster.

You may disagree with the coach. But he's now gotten a close look at the roster he's inherited.
So has everyone on this board and most would say that the tournament should be the goal for next season.

per Marcus' article:
"I would think that would be pretty unrealistic because you lost two very good players in Trevor Mbakwe and Rodney Williams," Pitino told the Pioneer Press on Monday, April 15. "My expectations are, honestly, whenever you take a new job, to establish my brand on these guys, the culture I want to do."
Pitino, who coached Florida International to an 18-14 record last season, has said he wants to play a more up-tempo and aggressive, pressing style.
"It's not what Coach Smith did is wrong," he said. "He did a lot of great things, and he's going to continue to do a lot of great things in this game. But I've just got to now install my system and install the way I do things."

Go Gophers!!
What should he have done, guaranteed a tournament appearance and said we might make a sweet sixteen run?
I'll judge coach Pitino the same way I judge all coaches: by their team's performance on the field and improvement over time.
There's nothing wrong with acknowledging what every fan in this state is expecting.
And what are Minnesota fans expecting from a team that just finished 8-10 in the Big Ten, loses 4 seniors including 2 of the top 4 players on the team, and has no highly rated players coming in?
Rodney is addition by subtraction. Get Tarick Black and you are just as good as last year.
