Pitino post game: South Dakota did a really good job and we did not.

Agree. But you need to admit it was quite unlikely Tubby would have even had that much success with the group he had returning. Then we can put that line to bed, right?

It's hypothetical. Pitino's was concrete. You never know what will happen. Did anyone expect a 9-win team to turn into a 22-win team the next season with a new coach?

I disagree. You don't get all-star recognition for making the consolation tournament (not to mention having a worse season than the previous one which got your predecessor a pink slip).

You seem to forget that Andre went down for two games and was never the same for the rest of the season. Also the NCAA random decision generator denied the chance for Rakeem Buckles to come here, which would have made us a much better team. Both of those situations were beyond his control. He had a good first season regardless.

Do you want to go down the road of injuries and player ineligibility? Really?

Yeah lol no coach has had more issues with that than Tubby. If Al never breaks his foot, Trevor isn't accused of assault, and Royce never steals those clothes we may have two final four trips under Tubby.

I was okay with firing Tubby, although it is hypothetical, I do think Pitino outperformed what Tubby would have his first year and it seemed his best year was him peaking, issues outside of his control seemed to have killed the momentum he had built.

But the Tubby tenure is entirely different if the above problems don't exist. Those had potential to be some phenomenal teams. Extremely disappointing and not fair to Tubby at all.

Just like how Hollins regressed

This was due mostly to the change in tempo which better suited his game.

Tubby is a very good coach. He just never caught a break here, everything that could go wrong pretty much did.

Sometimes I think what Gopher athletics needs is a Witch Doctor or an Exorcist!

Nice try, but you forgot to compare his sophomore year stats when Tubby was here when he was supposedly playing out of position at PG. I guess going from 14.6 ppg to 13.8 ppg as a senior is not a lot of regression, but I would not call it development either. Maybe mediocrity? You know, what everyone blamed Tubby for?
