PiPress: Carlos Morris gained 10 lbs since arriving in May; "tremendous passer"

+1

And as previously stated, he is stick thin, he needs weight to be effective in the Big 10...

Shaun Brown is one of the best in the biz I trust he knows what he is doing.

We are counting on squirrel to be effective immediately he has to gain weight.

I hear the staff is stuffing him with food (3-4 meals a day and bunch pb & J)now that they are able to provide unlimited amounts of food per the NCAA.

Those who watch film probably noticed this right away. I'm guessing this is a reason why he was lightly recruited coming out of the JUCO ranks. If he hits the floor with a B1G ready body, maybe he can surprise.

B1G ready body

Good thing T-Wolves new draft choice Zach Lavine wasn't a year younger than Martin, he may have considered joining him as a Gopher. We would have had to tell him at 6'-6" 181lbs, sorry, you don't have a B1G ready body.

Weights are a conversation piece only. Remember what Norm said on CHEERS.

Carlos Morris is going to be a 1st round draft choice?

He probably gained most of it through water weight. It's been quite the wet summer in Minnesota.

Can't believe Moe Hargrow was playing 30mpg without a B1G body!

Well said. Though, I heard he just discovered Chipotle when he got to campus.

Always been Big Maurice Hargrow fan, Big Chipotle fan as well.. Eat up Carlos.

Sure, it'd be nice if he put on some weight. But to think he can't compete in the B1G at his current size is ridiculous. Austin Hollins was always very thin and did just fine. And just because Carlos is thin, doesn't mean he isn't strong.

His JUCO coach was the first one to say it. He's now going to try and play in the best conference in the country and has to compete against McNeil, a pretty good player, for playing time. Gaining 10-15 lbs. is the least of the challenges he will be facing.

Then I disagree with his JUCO coach too. As I said, he'd obviously benefit from more weight/strength, but I still think he will be a solid contributor.

Does Lil Dre have a "B1G body"?

Yes. Mathieu is shredded. 8 inches shorter than Morris and only 20 pounds lighter (if Morris truly has added 10 lb to get to 185).

And Mathieu didn't have to add 7 pounds of fat in a month.

Nice try. Just because you made a bunch of matter of fact statements that you somehow think are scientific doesn't mean you've proven anything. Your number crap with calories was entertaining though. Let me guess, all calories are created equally.

At least point us to some pseudoscientific research. I'd love to hear about this "simple science" showing that it's impossible to gain 5 pounds of muscle in a month.

I already did the math for you. I'm not gonna google it for you too, little buddy. I think you know how to use the internet.

I suppose you also think that you can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time too?

It's your move to show me something.

Umm..Yes? A calorie is just a unit of energy (4.184 Joules), and a kcal (what food is actually measured in) is 4184 Joules. Did you learn anything in high school chemistry or did you just ask your friends to show you the research and not bother to learn anything for yourself?

I couldn't care less if you believe me, dude. You're going to nitpick anything I show you, so what's the point? Do the research yourself, and form your own conclusion like an educated adult. I'm handing it out for free, so take it or leave it. The fact that you don't have a solid grasp on what a calorie is, leads me to believe that you have a long ways to go. I would start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie

Good luck.

Yep. All calories are equal. 100 calories of fat is exactly equal to 100 calories of sugar. Eat about 3,500 of both and you will gain one pound.

He wasn't.

Mo was about 190lbs max, I have a hard time believing he was actually any more than that. I'd image Carlos will be playing at a similar weight.

He was listed at 175lbs a year ago, so we have no idea what he weights right now or before this supposed 10lbs gain.

Let's start an "All things gaining weight thread."

June pissing matches is why I keep coming back to GopherHole...said no one ever.

Wow. Thanks for the lesson, but I'm guessing I've taken a few more chemistry courses than you have. You're reading what I said way too literally, along with the other poster. My point was that a calorie of one substance has a different effect in the body than a calorie of another substance. Thus, counting calories is idiotic most of the time. I really hope you don't believe that Coke Zero has the same effect as water once it's in the body just because they both have zero calories. For your sake, I really hope you can't be this ignorant. If you're trying to lose weight, do you think that you're better off drinking a diet soda than having an avocado or a serving of raw almonds just because the soda has very few calories and the avocado and almonds are packed with calories?

I'm nitpicking what you've shown because you argued with other posts using ignorant claims that you somehow thought were scientific. You clearly know little about biochemistry or nutrition in general. Next time you pretend to be an authority on a topic, at least know a little bit about what you're talking about.

Good god. This line of thinking is why our country is so obese. See what happens if you eat 3,500 calories of sugar vs. 3,500 calories of raw nuts. Shockingly, sugar is worse for you, and your body will let you know.

That wasn't my argument. You are fabricating things. I simply made an accurate statement. You expounded on it and read things into it.

You are shifting this from weight to health. They are two different discussions.

Yea, and I'm guessing some of us have taken even more chemistry classes than you. Please take your pizzing contest to another off topic thread. Discussions of the merit of diet coke vs almonds is not really relevant to the Gophs.

I really wish somebody could answer the question of what weighs more, the fat or the muscle. I seem to recall once reading that muscle weighs more than fat.
