That means he's putting on bad weight. It's not possible to gain that much muscle in a month. Let's hope it doesn't slow him down.

True, but it's hard to gain muscle quickly without putting on some fat too. I'd guess the training staff has him gaining as much weight as possible for now, and then he'll drop the extra fat before the season starts.
 

From all the pictures and his highlight video, he needs it, even if it is mostly body fat.

Ya, even if only 2 of those pounds are muscle. It's fine for the first 10 pounds, but he really should ease up or he's gonna have to cut back down and this whole process will take significantly longer.
 

Anyone heard anything from Marcus or Amelia on how the two foreigners are looking? Those are the ones we know the least about.

If he just started lifting I wouldn't say it's impossible. I'm sure at least a pound or two of that 10 is fat though.
 

Its not out of the ordinary for people to add muscle mass quickly if they have not lifted much in the past. I know when I started lifting weights I lost a bunch of weight nearly 15 pounds over the course of two-three weeks. Then I gained nearly 20 pounds in the next couple of weeks. That's when things slowed down and it became more difficult to bulk up so to speak. If Morris hasn't lifted much in the past he will gain some quick muscle mass right away but then it will level off. I am sure being fit athlete is very different from what I was doing when I lifted but I am sure some of the reactions by the body will be similar.


I am also sure they are going with a balanced weight lifting program for upper, lower, and core.

Exactly, when you have that small of a frame, any weight added can be considered a positive. Now hopefully he's focusing on muscle-building excersizes. It's nice to hear how well he's been doing on the court so far!

Never said he was. Unlike you i can't determine a player's career based on a couple of blurry highlight videos. Are you shocked he even made it to campus?

Coming from the personal trainer

It's really not rocket science. A personal training certification can be obtained in as little as a week. Anyone that has ever lifted seriously and done the smallest bit of research will tell you that your "Noob" gains max out around 20-25 pounds in your first year of lifting. Nobody is putting on 10 pounds of lean muscle mass in one month. Maybe 4 if they are counting every calorie, and nutrient they put into their body and have never lifted in their life.

They'd also tell you that it's impossible to gain weight without putting on some fat. You can minimize it, but you can't eliminate it.
 

Going from 175 to 185, I don't think squirrel can put on any bad weight, personally I wouldn't worry about it unless he gets into the 200lbs range

If you want to talk about genetic freaks. Then you probably shouldn't look at the 400,000+ NCAA athletes. Maybe check out a small handful of the 18,000 professional athletes in America.

Even so, not even Lebron is putting on 10 pounds of good weight in a month.

No. It's not. Without steroids, a human being is not gaining muscle that fast. Ever.

To gain 10 pounds, you have to eat 35000 calories in surplus. That's an 1166 calorie surplus per day for 30 days.

Any nutrition plan that an athlete or body builder will use recommends at most a 500 calorie surplus per day to gain muscle with fat and a 250 calorie surplus per day to minimize fat gain.

An 1166 calorie surplus every day for 30 days without significant fat gain is literally impossible. 10 times out of 10.

And as previously stated, he is stick thin, he needs weight to be effective in the Big 10...

Shaun Brown is one of the best in the biz I trust he knows what he is doing.

We are counting on squirrel to be effective immediately he has to gain weight.

I hear the staff is stuffing him with food (3-4 meals a day and bunch pb & J)now that they are able to provide unlimited amounts of food per the NCAA.
