PICTURES!! Norwood Teague Unveils Gophers Master Facilities Plan

Maybe someone can answer this: where does the current TV money go? Into a general pool, or specifically for athletics?

My gut tells me that there's no way in heck they can come up with $190-million in private fundraising over the next 6-8 years. That leaves TV money as the bailout option. So, if the TV money is being diverted to pay for "Teague World," that money will not be going to cover other needs/expenses. Unless Teague is really the greatest fundraiser of all time, or T. Denny decides to cough up a big chunk of the deal, some other program or budget is going to be left shorthanded.

The money thing will work itself out. The main thing is they have a vision and are going to work towards it. NT stated everything might not get done but I love that they have a plan and are going to move towards it as opposed to addressing facilities one at a time.

This should also help in the fund raising campaign because they can go to potential donors with a plan in place that hopefully they are excited to get behind instead of going to them saying..."guess what, now we need money to build this...."

I have to believe that a big part of this is that add'l money that will come from the new TV contract. Because this encompasses so many sports, fund raising for each component gives many naming rights opportunities for booster of various programs. May only be $50k donations, but they add up.

We could also take the alcohol money towards this. We have already seen a increase in football revenue from enhanced alcohol sales (and a great home schedule this year) with a sell out of the suits at TCF.

I would also think that they could get donations for the academic center, like the Target.com Academic Development Center. I am sure Teague is going to leave no stone unturned...I expect a call any day looking for my $100 check to name a brick. I think I will call him George. : )

I was thinking that would be a good idea. Did they do something like that for TCF Bank Stadium?

How about something like $25 a month for several years to get a brick or your name listed somewhere within the complex. When you break it down over many months, the donations will generally be a lot more because it's much easier to afford. I know it's not a ton of money, but it could add up to a good amount if enough people do it. Plus it gives us little joe's a chance to feel like we helped out.

Hmm...+1. Nicely said GII.

In all honesty, the only good things that come out of Iowa come from GophersInIowa. Well done.

Whoa, I take that back...some good things came out of Iowa when, a few months ago, my brother and sister in law left Davenport and moved to Texas.

They did do bricks. IIRC:
- the brick was given to you with some sort of engraving
- your name was put on the donors wall near Gate A
- it cost $1000

St. Thomas raised 500 million from 2009-2012.

If the U of M can't raise 190 million in 8 years that would be embarrassing.

Was that an athletics, single-focused development campaign, or just in general for academics, athletics, research, etc?

Multiple causes.

But I know just one athletic building was over 50 million dollars of that. And they have more changes and upgrades planned with that money. And they are a D3 school 20% the size with a much smaller localized alumni base and they did it in 3 years. If st Thomas can spend 50 million on one athletic building and the U of M can't produce 200 million....it really says a lot about the u of m.

I think you nailed it, and there's more that went virtually unnoticed. Richard Beeson was named new Chair of the board of Regents, Dean Johnson vice-Chair. They are from different sides of the aisle, but are major, major supporters of Gopher football. I imagine part of the discord in this election was the Atlhletic Department supporters versus those vestiges of the "hate the AD no matter what" crowd. This was a big, big deal. Kaler got his guys in power on the board.

Teague has the votes, which is almost as important as the dough.

+1. Nailed It.

They did have one donor that gave about $100 mill of that in the Andersons....but point still made.

I did my $1000 at $50 a month for 24 months (really $1200). I signed up only 2 months before TCFB stadium opened and they still put our (actually my Grandmother's) name on the stadium wall. They don't need it all at once, just the commitment and the monthly payments.

I probably couldn't have swung it back then anyhow, but I wish I'd know that payment plans were an option. Ah well, whatcha gonna do? Thanks for noting it so that I can make sure to ask in future giving campaigns. =)
