Phillip Nelson

Nelson and Barker's first half against Purdue may have been the most optimistic I've been about this program in my lifetime. Oh well...

East Carolina plays nc state next week at 11 on espnu.

..."Watch the screen pass to Perry! Watch the screen pass to Perry!"

Again, I thought there was an unwritten rule here to never speak of a certain game that may or may not have actually ever happened.

As for Nelson, I don't know what kind of Homer Stuff a bunch of GH posters are drinking, but Nelson has always been the better passer between he and Leidner.

Based on what? Nelson was an absolutely dreadful passer when he was here.

I always liked Nelson as a player - I think his shortcomings were off the field. I really wish he could have hung here for his college career as I think he could have been heads and tails better than ML. That said, I am actually real torn on if our constant QB shortcomings are symptomatic poor coaching/development, O scheme, or lack of talent. I - despite the ridicule of this board - have always been an Adnam Weber fan. Whenever your QB gets a shot at the pros and can stick to a roster for 1+ years, it means the raw talent was likely there - I think it was for MG too. However, our coaches cannot develop an elite passer and, as such, don't gameplan around having one.

a distinction without a difference. i'll go you one further tho...claeys ain't gonna let his ego keep mitcheroo in there like jerry did.

Leidner is far and away the best QB on the team. It's not close. Barring injury, he'll take virtually every meaningful snap this season. Deal with it.

Correct. Mitch is flawed but he's a gamer and a winner

I don't recall a qb in recent history gopher fans have liked

Former QB who would have been tossed from the team anyway has a good day and everyone loses their minds.

Let's hope he handles success a tad better than he handled failure.

Interesting study in circumstance. If Nelson isn't an entitled brat with a superiority complex, maybe he is in Minneapolis and not in Mankato that night. Maybe Kolstad finds someone else to cowardly punch in the back of the head.

Not in the way you do, but I do think that everyone on here looks for reasons the offense fails without wanting to blame ML7. Limey, WRs, Injuries, he is tough tho, etc. He is the one common denominator in all the struggles we have had recently and that is hard to deny.

Everyone? Must be reading different posts than me...

You're understating the performance by a lot. Not only did he have almost 400 passing yards, he was 28-32, with 5 TD's and 0 Ints. He also rushed for a TD as well. Love him, hate him, or somewhere in the middle, you have to admit those are VERY impressive numbers.
Ditto that. E. Carolina has some tough games ahead - will be interesting to see how Nelson does.

Pnels goes off with another decent game these folks here are gonna lose their collective minds. The entire thing means 0 but it makes for some terrific drama.

I can't even figure out why anyone would care...

Just stop abbreviating a player's name like that. It isn't cool. It is annoying. It is dumb.

fully agree. only a matter of time before we get a Dredrick Snelson thread.

Nelson was a multi-year starter at the U. Why wouldn't some fans be interested in how he's doing?

Ha! That you know exactly what I'm talking about says volumes about the pain that is being a Minnesota sports fan.
