According to GI it looks like he enjoyed his visit at least that's what it sounds like anyway. He would be a nice steal from the BADgers.

If he is a MN kid who happens to chose the Badgers, then they stole him from us! MN is the U's ground, not Wisconsin, regardless of what BB says.

He grew up in Wisconsin and I believe both parents went to school as Badgers. Not the typical situation for in in-state recruit.

He's not really a "MN kid" considering he grew up in Wisconsin and is a fan of Becky. I would probably characterize it as us stealing him from them if he committed here.

EDIT: What fencejumpers said LOL

Kill has a good case to present to Nelson though - there's reason for optimism. "Phillip, you're my kind of quarterback. You fit perfectly in the kind of offense I've been running for the last fifteen years. And by the way, have you seen our locker room? It's shaped like a football!"

UW alums that moved to Mankato or in Marz case, Springfield MN. These are country folk who avoid the big city.

This State is littered with Vagabond Transplants from Iowa & Wisconsin !!!

As of right now, who looks to be the better of the two top in-state QB's, Nelson or Mollberg? It seems like we have a better shot at Mollberg but it also looks like both fit into Kill's offense better than wisconsin's.

Fair enough to both of you. I did not know that. Just a little tired of MN supposedly having to settle for the states leftovers because BB thinks MN is his own turf. Not so and it is time to say as much.

I think the general consensus is that Nelson will be more highley recruited, but I think it's close. You could also argue that Mollberg might be a little better fit simply because he is a faster kid than Nelson. They are both quality BCS conference caliber QBs, IMO.

This sounds dumb, but there's no possibility of taking them both is there? If one doesn't quite work out having him switch positions. Obviously it's a cake and eat it too scenario.

It's possible and I think it would be ideal. It is certainly atypical to recruit two kids to play QB in the same class but it isn't unheard of. The difficult part would be talking the recruits into the notion. They are similar in talent levels to a point where it is conceivable that one of them would never be a starting QB in college. Good programs do this all the time though.

Nelson would be a wonderful kid to sign. Appears to have the size, speed, and arm that would be successful in Kill's offensive scheme.

I'm of the belief that you bring in at least one QB in each class. I'd be wary of bringing in two who are almost mirror images of each other, but high schools QBs are usually among the best athletes on the team and can often move to a different position at the next level.

I like the one QB per class idea, but when MN has two BCS level prospects I think we are not in the position to say no to either one of them. I say take 'em both.

Mollberg is kind of a cool kid too. He has been very vocal about wanting to be a Gopher and he turned down an offer to go to an Iowa camp and Jr Day.

What an excellent way to endear yourself to the Gopher fanbase!

2 QBs. I could go for that.

Just as long as we don't bring in 6 like 2004....

They obviously prefer Nelson at this point so he will get the first chance but with his Becky ties and alot of other B10 interest, I doubt he will decide anytime soon. I think Molberg being a Gopher fan and not being shy about it may be preventing his offer at the moment since they know he will likely accept it and would basically end there chances with Nelson. I would guess they are trying to get a better feel for Nelson and where they stand after he makes a trip to wisc and IC. If you can get Molberg to wait and be patient, then you have nothing to lose but if you wait for Nelson and he goes to Wisc. and Molberg gets tired of waiting and finds another school who is showing him the love, then we would of screwed ourselves pretty bad. I personally like Molberg just as much if not a little more than Nelson.

HL, I remember that recruiting class as one of the first ones I followed really closely on the internet. That was the strangest recruiting class I have ever seen. If you look at how void of talent that class is, I think it's easy to comprehend how we had so much difficulties when these guys were upperclassmen. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice players (Dom Barber, WVS, G. Russell), but that class had a total of 6 guys who did anything at the U.

I'd prefer Molberg but I'm from DL and my decision is influenced by support for a kid from my hometown. In other words I have no rational reason for supporting one over the other at this point.

Yeah, I'm from Bemidji, so have an irrational support for anyone from northern Minnesota - and, thus, prefer Mollberg. :)

I had such high hopes for Andre Sloan El and David Wess!

Odd, odd, odd recruiting class.

Whatever happened to Sloan El? Wasn't he supposed to be a pretty good athlete out of high school?

I have a thought that maybe Kill doesn't want to offer both Mollberg and Nelson because one or both of them might get scared off by the fact they actually have to compete for a spot on the depth chart.

He's playing for the Steelhawks of the Indoor Football League (IFL) in Pennsylvania. Here's a quote from the press release when they signed him last fall:
http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=4104780

Andre Sloan El, a Philadelphia native and graduate of Roman Catholic High School, brings big time play making ability to the Quarterback position. The 6'3" 205 lb. signal caller is a unique talent because he can hurt opponents with his legs, just as easily as with his arm. Signed out of Roman by the University of Minnesota, Sloan El took his game to Emporia State University for his Junior and Senior seasons where in just two years amassed 4,562 total yards, good for 4th in school history. His 34 career touchdowns also rank him among the top 5 in the ESU record books.

"What you're getting in a player like Andre, is the Michael Vick or Donovan McNabb affect of indoor football," stated Executive Vice President Mike Clark. "He is just as dangerous tucking the ball away and scrambling for big yards as he is airing the ball out. It's not easy game planning for a dual threat like that."

Whatever happened to Sloan El? Wasn't he supposed to be a pretty good athlete out of high school?

Sloan El transferred to the College of the Sequoias after red-shirting as a freshman at the U. After one year to College of the Sequoias, he transferred to Emporia State (KS), where he started 23 games over three years. Didn't realize he was playing Indoor Football.

I'm not from DL, but Mollberg's old man used to rock a stylin' moustache in the late 80s, so he's got my support.

+1 I'm from Grand Rapids so the Mollberg kid has to be the better of the two :)

Mollberg solely because MV and I jumped on that bandwagon more than a year ago, before I had ever heard of Nelson.

I hope Coach Kill can sign both.

We need to do a better job of keeping MN kids at home. It sets the tone for other MN kids who we will need to build a solid home recruiting base. Coach Brewster glossed over MN kids and took pride in getting players from other zipcodes over MN kids who had the ability to be good D1 players.
