Paul Carter

I agree with many posters

I would like to see Carter get more of JAS minutes in the future.

Agreed, Dr.D
Carter's sprain looked bad esp. given the length of time he spent in a boot. That limits mobility of course and it takes time to get that back. During that time or renewing mobility, the lack thereof makes the ankle vulnerable to re-injury.
As for the discussion regarding red-shirt for injury, I believe Adam Boone was given a medical redshirt after sitting out a year for his transfer.
AND YES!! Go Gophers - I'm excited for our three games next week - Ohio State on Saturday!

That is not completely accurate. A medical redshirt is differentiated from a normal red shirt because you can't play during the season for a normal red shirt but a medical red shirt can be used if a player played in less than 30% of the games and suffered a season ending injury (Duane Bennett).

Correct. I was implying that a redshirt is a redshirt in the sense that you only get one. In other words, had Bennett used a redshirt his true freshman season and then missed this entire past season, odds are strong that he would have simply lost this past season and not gotten a sixth year.

6th Year

Usually the NCAA doesn't grant a 6th year if a normal redshirt or transfer year is taken. I remember the surprise when Boone got his 6th year, because it wasn't expected.
