15 starters are seniors and no recruits over *** committed yet for the present recruiting class. Maybe he's thinking that his program has peaked and he'll never be worth more. Not saying he should consider this job, but we're desperate and would write a big check to get him at this point. He's also earned front-runner status for Michigan or if another big job opens unexpectedly. If he's not locked in at TCU, making the move this year makes sense.

You make some good points. This appears to be a prime situation for him to leave and start over somewhere else as it sounds like he will be starting over anyway.

He turned down the job, then accepted it, but we wouldn't back out on Brewster so there was interest.

Also, Maturi said a few weeks ago that he was "surprised there was a coach of that quality interested in the job." Maybe Paterson was that guy. I doubt it though....

I don't think Patterson will leave TCU. He's worshipped over there. And on top of that, the fans on their board seem convinced a Big East invite is coming this week. Their trustees supposedly are considering the invite on Tuesday. If they go to the Big East, there's not much incentive to go to another BCS school. Heck, they'd march through the Big East like Sherman through Atlanta. They'd be BCS bowling every year.

when will the idiots learn. TCU and Boise never have "top recruits".

*** **** *****

The 3 star, 4 star talk doesn't go far IMO. Football is a team sport. And a good coach teaches his players that when everyone does their job good things happen. Wasn't the whole reason Timmy B. was hired was because he could recruit?

Makes sense for him to answer the phone and listen, the Big East possibility also makes TCU more desirable. Regardless losing 15 seniors and 2011 non-conference opponents Baylor, Texas Tech, and Navy along with Boise State, Air Force, and San Diego State on the schedule could spell a step backwards and 8-5 could be realistic. Patterson could be worth $3-3.5 million at Michigan. It would be interesting to see what Minnesota or West Virginia would be willing to pay him. A major program might open because their coach might jump to the NFL or be burned out and his phone will likely ring for that opening too.

It is not out of the realm of possibility

that he has picked up the phone and listened.

They said during the Boise State game the other night that he has been really lobbying hard for TCU to make the National Championship game. Maybe he's tired of doing that every year.

I think it's interesting that no new names have been "leaked" in weeks. Also Maturi said it might be until January...

I still stand by my thought that this will turn out to be a "holy s***" hire when it's all said and done.

Patterson is helmet school quality now. We are not.

Our desperate situation does offer something to Patterson- possibly $20 million+ guaranteed money. We'll have to give someone big 7 years. He could probably make some serious demands in regards to budget and assistant coaches salaries too.

His position is very different than it was 4 years ago. He doesn't have to gamble his future on a total rebuild job at a school with a miserable football history over the last couple of generations. He can go to a helmet school that pulls all the stops to win and has a stable administration and athletic department.

Probably true. Michigan or someplace comparable will probably be offering $20 million and less of a career gamble too.
