The tommies pounded future gophers opponent lindenwood this year

I don’t think pioneer teams or ivy teams typically play any FBS opponents

Tommies vs gophers would be fun and no risk for the gophers.
Probably would be about 35 or 42 to 3 or 7 in a game that takes about 2.5 hours.
Huh?

I don’t understand your question

They’re no risk to the gophers because they wouldn’t be competitive.
Okay. If we are still talking football, there is a risk. Say St. Thomas plays error free and keeps it somewhat interesting for a half or more. That is a risk. Also any potential injury would be a risk. Personally, I am not a fan of games that does nothing to benefit Gopher football.

If we are choosing to help that program, I'd rather we direct players that maybe want/ need a change of scenery to go there.

I hope PJ Fleck is cultivating a relationship with the Tommies' Glenn Caruso. If those two are friendly, it can benefit them both. Caruso scouts players in the Pioneer League that Fleck would never know about, and players leaving the Minnesota program can make a soft landing at St Thomas. There are potential synergies.

The game would create revenue?
Probably more revenue than northwestern state (I don’t know that I only speculate)
The game would have a lower cost financially?
I assume st Thomas would command a lower cost than a scholarship FCS game and I wouldn’t play it if it didn’t.

The risk vs st Thomas is not a larger risk than any cupcake opponent. The risks you mentioned of being embarrassed or injury risk are equally likely vs lindenwood or northwestern state.

I’m a UST person who doesn’t think the gophers should play UST in basketball because there is a risk. There is no risk in football.
If there is a risk in football, it’s also a winning situation because it would create a coaching change 😂

The game is so little risk that only 4 games of that sort have ever been played by teams from that conference.

It’s fine if you don’t want to play the game because of injury risk or the risk of it being close. I assume you don’t want any non conference games then?

This! Playing them though? IMHO zero benefit for the Gophers.

I respect your opinion and do like the University of St. Thomas. I just don't see any benefit. Only risks.

Based on how successfully we've closed the border during Fleck's tenure, I'm sure we've got some substantial relationships built among both high school and college coaching staffs generally and among whatever statewide coaches associations that exist here. Expanding and maintaining influence is what Fleck is probably best at

The 105 full scholarship, fully rev share funded roster of the Gophers, should never be playing a non-scholarship school.

It wouldn't be a risk in football. It'd be like playing NW State - an ugly beatdown.
There is a risk in hoops, but I think that will come to be at some point.

I think they should definitely be playing in hoops and hockey.

I would argue they should never play an FCS school

But the gophers have a team at Thomas beat on the schedule in 2027

The benefit would be financial
Because they’d command a lower payout and would probably produce more revenue than lindenwood or northwestern state

And that team beat St. Thomas 64-0 in ‘24, and was D2 a few years ago, the Gophers shouldn’t be scheduling either of them.

Okay. I get it. You're a Tommie. I like your passion! We are just two fans chatting.

With that said, Go Tommies, and Go Gophers!

I'm not sure where they could build a stadium if that's something they want to do.
The university has secured land and approvals for baseball and softball stadium projects at Highland Bridge, so North Field would presumably be available in the future and it might give them a bit larger footprint if they were to build a new stadium.

It's called 'GOPHERhole' for a reason...

NOTE: Sorry, I meant to reply to 'everybody knows my name'..

The "7 National Titles Football Forum" is the place where Gopher football fans gather to talk about the team, college football, recruiting and the program's march back to Pasadena.

Everybody Knows My Name can read. Can you?

He just wanted to bump the thread

Evidently you cannot, but that's ok. This forum is for all GOPHER fans!
