Okay. Seven players from Kilgore were named all-conference in 2010. Osunde was not one of them. He was honorable mention. Bill Lynch did a great job at Indiana of finding bodies and getting them early. But they were not good enough to compete in a conference like the Big Ten. Jerry Kill needs to realize that he is not competing against Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, and Buffalo any more. He is not going to beat Nebraska, Wisconsin, Ohio State with guys like this.

You think Kill doesn't know that? Kill can't be expected to come in and all of a sudden start recruiting against OSU and Wisconsin. He needs guys to fill 2010 spots and JC guys that can step in and play right away. He is going to red-shirt a lot of HS guys in my opinion.

I wouldn't let this year be any sort of indication of his recruiting style. He HAS to get jucos this year.

If they continue to get 8 jucos a year and can't compete in the (Notorious) B.1.G. 10 - then your point is valid. At this point, it isn't.

But we are competing against the Dakotas and the last couple years the results have not been great. I like your comparison to Bill Lynch. Look at the positions of the JC players Kill has recruited, they are all filling needs for next season. In the grand scheme of things they are here to bridge the gap and depth to positions of need. I don't see Kill going to the JC ranks as hard in the future.

I can't imagine Kill believes he just brought in the next Charles Woodson. Kill's brought in four JUCOs and all of them are at positions where we need depth (CB, S, WR, TE). When he starts touting these guys as future all big ten performers is when you should start to worry.

Agreed. It isn't like Kill is getting JC players just for kicks. He is filling positions of need where they need kids who can immediately make an impact.

A new system will be tough on the entire team. By getting the JC players in for spring ball, they can learn the system. Thus, next season they will have guys who are more physically mature (since they are juniors rather than freshmen or sophomores) and know the system.

The best teams are senior-heavy. Kill knows this.

I'm not worried, we are razor thin at WR and in the secondary. We have 9 juniors I believe. We need bodies period.
If it helps think of Rabe as Nick Rengel from the 09' class, Osunde as Kerry Lewis, Crawford as Tim Dandridge, and Harris as Broderick Smith. Josh Campion can be himself already redshirted and grayshirted.
Basically there are alot of holes to fill from transfers and washouts in the 08 and 09 classes. Are they as good as those players, who knows, probably not, but they are here and have been identified by Kill for his system and will hopefully be servicable for 2 years until Kill's HS recruits mature a bit and Brew's '10 recruits find a niche in the new systems.

From the time he was hired Kill had only two months to try and fill out this recruiting class. You don't get good recruits by beginning the conversation 2 months before signing day, you get them by starting a year before signing day.

At this point getting marginal guys is better than getting nobody so I have no problems with this. We need bodies. Next year will be a much better indication of Kill's recruiting abilities here.

I agree and I hope that he will be able to show 2012 recruits that he can take a 3-9 team and take them to a Bowl game in his first year. That would be awesome.

Especially since next year looks to be the deepest class in Minnesota in years. I could see signing 8-10 guys from Minnesota.

I agree JC's are almost as much a crapshoot as HS kids. I just don't see Kill saying stupid things about recruits.

Agreed. I wouldn't be surprised if half these guys never saw the field (like David Pittman, Logan U'u, Marc Cheatham, Hayo etc.) and then if some others made solid but not spectacular contributions (Eric Small). All we are looking for is some depth here, not all stars.

What I like about Jerry Kill is he laid out his plan in his first few interveiws and now he is executing the plan. We need depth at certain positions and he doesn't want to waste redshirt opportunities and he wants to use last years scholarships to get depth and not lose this years class...Juco players solve these needs and allow him to recruit 2 star HS players and redshirt them and coach them up...I see him filling needs again next year and then not needing the JUCO players as much after that. Either way...the first thing we need to do is begin winning the games we are supposed to win...games we conistently lost under Brewster...so get us back to the Mason years and then see if you can move beyond them...if not...we try again in 6-7 years...if you can't get us back to the Mason years in 3 years...we try again in 3 years...no other options...time to embrace the process.

Welcome to the Gophers!

Some posters need to realize that holding their breath and pouting until Kill starts signing 4 star HS kids to fill out this class will simply result in them killing precious brain cells. There are immediate needs and Kill is filling them with available JC players. Not sure how this is a hard concept to grasp.

Isn't there a guy that keeps a depth chart of all the classes on the web somewhere? Does anyone have a breakdown of what our depth is at each position? Also who are some of Brewster's walk-ons that might blossum under Kill's instruction?

The daily gopher did this one recently.

MV's includes players names and a few walk ons. I'm not sure how updated it is, although I'm not seeing Bryant Allen on there so I'm thinking it's pretty up to date.

The daily gopher one isn't super accurate. I believe it has Green listed as a SR as well as Rallis.

As far as walk ons or former walk ons:
Rallis (obviously)
Hahn
Botticelli
Mottla
Barker
Balthazor
Hill
Haney
Cotton

These are all walk ons or former walk ons who will contribute in some way throughout their career

If Carter comes back, this signing could certainly help us be able RS Vereen next season (like he should've done this year).

Stoudermire, Carter, Henderson, Osunde, C. Lewis, Bouie and Johnson should be enough depth to get through next season without burning Vereen's RS.

Could Henderson possibly give one of his years of eligibility to Vereen?

If is makes you feel any better Texas Tech, Kansas State, and Cincinnati were all trying to get him to visit their campus and talking about offering soon. He was recruited by Arizona and Arizona State out of HS but it was known all along he was never going to qualify.

Ha.

Who knows maybe we'l see Collado like improvement in Henderson. You know like he could go from a guy who looks in over his head to actually having a role on a Big 10 football team.
