Go Gophers!!

I don't know anything about him but his size is nice and so is his speed. Just waiting for someone to say he can't be as fast as it says. I will let you look that up yourself. Welcome to MN Everett!

Outstanding! welcome aboard Mr Everett Williams, and SKI-U-Mah, Go Gophers.

I am so down I can't even be excited. Sill pissed at Kill for starting Nelson and not having his team fired up and for CONSERVATIVE play calling that saps the guts out of me.

Arm tackler. Looks like a project with good measurables. Can't afford to take many projects this class.

He's a 2-star linebacker. What an overreaction by Ryan Burns. By the way he tweeted it, I thought we landed a top 10 linebacker. Is this really going to significantly improve a cellar-dweller gophers squad like Jeff Jones could? Doubt it.

Gameday thanks for the statement. Glad Williams wanted to come to Minnesota but where would he be a plan A guy? If he is a plan A guy in the Big Ten that team is not improving at the rate it needs to be.

FWIW, we have now moved ahead of Purdue on recruiting rankings on rivals. We are #76 and Purdue is now #77

Yeah this is a terrible overreaction. Makes me glad I quit wasting my time so closely following recruiting. Now GI is hyping two stars, must be pretty bleak over there.

I didn't even know rivals had 2 stars. Is this plan A?

Well he's a composite 3* on 247. He's solid. I think he's got good size and we all know how questionable our linebacking core is. I think he could be an upgrade at some point.

He's NOT a 2-star, ESPN has him as a 3-Star with a grade of 73 and offers from LA-Monroe, Navy and New Mexico State.

Big Play Ability

He did demonstrate he could run and score a TD or two from the defensive side but on a game-to-game basis does not demonstrate an explosiveness or physicality that would suggest he is a consistent big-play guy.

Bottom Line

Williams is a solid athlete without an extra physicality to him or an explosive first step. He most likely will project as a stand-up LB and will most likely appeal to some lower level BCS schools.

Welcome Mr.Williams and Staff; Coach 'em Up!

You people are ridiculous. Right now we are not going to be filling to roster with 5 star guys across the board, or even 4 stars. I trust Kill and staff to evaluate players that fit this system and that includes maturity, football ability, and academic ability.

We've been behind getting verbals, scholarships are at a premium in this class, and now we have a kid excited to commit to The "U" and all you can do is take pot shots.

Players, their family, friends, and other recruits read these boards, and we should make Everett feel welcome and valued.

I'll get off my soapbox, but it's still right next to me, and I'm more than happy to jump back on.

Welcome Mr. Williams, look forward to seeing you on the field.

Mr. Williams, welcome and thank you for making the U of M your second home.

Ski-U-Mah and Go Gophers!

This seems to come up every time a lower * player commits, but recruiting rankings mean nothing. Schools/coaches/players prove this time and again, year in and year out.

Look no farther than Kill's previous school Northern Illinois. Right now they are better and more talented than the Gophers. They also beat the same Iowa team in Iowa City that handled us on Saturday. They did this with mostly 1 and 2 * recruits.

According to ESPN who is the highest ranked Gopher recruit in the last 5 years? Moses Alipate. How'd that turn out?

recruiting rankings mean nothing

Wrong.

They did this with mostly 1 and 2 * recruits.

First of all, there is no such thing as a 1-star recruit, and further, your point is meaningless because MAC schools are able to recruit only a handful of 3-stars each year and almost never get 4-stars. You don't need a roster full of 3-stars to beat Akron and Eastern Michigan, but it's very tough to beat Michigan and Ohio State with any consistency when their rosters are full of 4-stars with the occasional 5- and 3-star sprinkled in.

According to ESPN who is the highest ranked Gopher recruit in the last 5 years? Moses Alipate. How'd that turn out?

ESPN recruiting sucks. Also, pointing out the exceptions only proves that they're not Gospel truth (duh), not that they "mean nothing".

"recruiting rankings mean nothing. " Fan bases that don't get the highly touted classes always say the rankings mean nothing. I think Alabama, Ohio st, Oregon, would all argue differently. Obviously the ranking system isn't a guarantee but it's pretty telling that that best teams I. The country have the highest rated recruits. Maybe JK can get low ranked players into nfl lotto picks.
