Specifically, the "George Dohrmann" hammer

Should be a fun week in Stillwater

• Part 1: Money (On SI.com Tuesday, 9/10 and in the 9/16/13 SI issue): SI finds that OSU used a bonus system orchestrated by an assistant coach whereby players were paid for their performance on the field, with some stars collecting $500 or more per game. In addition, the report finds that OSU boosters and at least two assistant coaches funneled money to players via direct payments and a system of no-show and sham jobs. Some players say they collected more than $10,000 annually in under-the-table payouts.

• Part 2: Academics (On SI.com Wednesday, 9/11): Widespread academic misconduct, which included tutors and other OSU personnel completing coursework for players, and professors giving passing grades for little or no work, all in the interest of keeping top players eligible.

• Part 3: Drugs (On SI.com Thursday, 9/12): OSU tolerated and at times enabled recreational drug use, primarily through a specious counseling program that allowed some players to continue to use drugs while avoiding penalties. The school’s drug policy was selectively enforced, with some stars going unpunished despite repeated positive tests.

• Part 4: Sex (On SI.com Friday, 9/13): OSU’s hostess program, Orange Pride, figured so prominently in the recruitment of prospects that the group more than tripled in size under Miles. Both Miles and Gundy took the unusual step of personally interviewing candidates. Multiple former players and Orange Pride members say that a small subset of the group had sex with recruits, a violation of NCAA rules.

• Part 5: The Fallout (On SI.com Tuesday, 9/17, and in the 9/23/13 SI issue): SI finds that many players who were no longer useful to the football program were cast aside, returning to worlds they had hoped to escape. Some have been incarcerated, others live on the streets, many have battled drug abuse and a few have attempted suicide.

yikes. death sentence perhaps? i think so!

I don't think the NCAA will ever dole out the death penalty again because, strong as the sanction was intended to be, it devastated SMU in a manner that was far greater and lengthier than intended. SMU never recovered, even before college football changed so much that it became fundamentally impossible. After droppng bomb once, the NCAA has avoided doing so since, even when likely warranted. I'd expect Oklahoma State to receive penalties along the lines of those faced by the Gophers after our academic scandal, but truly believe the Cowboys will get to field a team.

I know coaches have been slapped with "show cause" penalties when they have been fired from the school at which they were cheating (our BB program is way too familiar with that). But has the NCAA ever removed a coach from their current job when they were found to have been cheating at their previous job? In other words, could the NCAA remove Les Miles from LSU if there is proof that he was crooked at Oklahoma St.?

Specifically, the "George Dohrmann" hammer

It's never a good thing when George Dohrmann comes asking for a program response to a story he's working on...

Go Gophers!!

Gundy is a total f*cktard. This couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Some D-III team in Oklahoma better watch out. The penalties from this might be bad.

I can't wait to see how T. Boone Pickens reacts to these allegations.

Go Gophers!!

This is right out of a movie!

" Miles took a more hospitable approach after he arrived in 2001 from the Dallas Cowboys. According to several players, boosters were permitted in the locker room; they were often on team flights and bus trips; they turned up at the training table. The boosters were at their most visible after a big victory, and no win was bigger during Miles's tenure than a 16-13 upset at No. 4 Oklahoma in the teams' regular-season finale of 2001. The Cowboys' victory kept the archrival Sooners from a shot at the BCS title game and sparked OSU's surge under Miles. In the locker room after the game, boosters approached key players and slipped cash into their hands. "We are talking about $500 handshakes," says safety Fath' Carter (2000 to '03), who observed others accepting such payments. (Miles denies that players were paid and says he gave boosters less access to the program, not more.)

Such handouts became more frequent as the team became more successful. Multiple players say it was common for some boosters to walk down the aisle of the team plane or bus and distribute cash-filled envelopes to the best players. Carter says he and other players were handed as much as $100 by adoring boosters as they walked from the Student Union to the stadium on game days. "We would get into the locker room, and guys would say, 'Yeah, Fath', I got one of those handshakes,'" Carter says. These payouts were independent of the performance bonus; players considered them thank you's from passionate fans. "They take care of their cats," says Doug Bond, an offensive lineman from 2002 to '04 who denies receiving payments. "They're not doing it for everybody."

Mickens says he visited a local businessman four times to collect cash, receiving about $500 on each trip. "I'd call him up and say, 'Hey, I need you to look out for me,'" says Mickens. "And he'd be like, O.K., come by." Mickens says Bowman visited the booster with him on several occasions and that Bowman received "way more" money."

Go Gophers!!

Have you read the comments?

They are basically saying: Ignore our cheating, what about the SEC?

I didn't bother to read the comments, but I trust your review and this is why I believe the NCAA is going to be dead within the decade. Fans at these football factories simply don't care.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that the rise of Oklahoma State football is tied to cheating & player payouts!

I will say that I'm not bothered by sex with recruits, and I wasn't bothered with it when it happened here (Lydon Murtha recuiting period). Flashing a smile & batting your eyes has long been a part of college recruiting. That's how ESU got Darnell Jefferson to committ when they sent Halle Berry in as his recruiting hostess.....

Ah, 'The Program", one of my favorite football movies!

I am guessing the LSU AD has his short list ready to go. Once the Dohrmann name is on a story, that is all for a coach named.

Miles & Gundy are gone with a 10 year show cause within a year.

I think EVERY college down to East Podunk Technical and Culinary University does that one.

Is there anyone left who still believes this stuff doesn't go on at every major program in the county? The system is as corrupt now as it ever was (maybe more so because the pressure to win is so high these days and the money is so big), teams have just gotten better about keeping it out of the public eye until one of them slips up and gets busted publically.

This crap goes on everywhere to some degree, we don't have the same level of boosters as they do in the south but you can bet even up here in Big Ten country there is plenty of money changing hands under the table.

Same thing happened with Jesus Shuttlesworth and the two porn stars in the dorm room at "Big State". If I remember correctly, in the end it didn't work as he went somewhere else.

Most of this seems to have happened outside the NCAA statute of limitations.

It also makes reference to the fact that if it is recurring recently from earlier years that the NCAA can use that in issuance of punishment.

OSU is not Oklahoma or Texas, but I still doubt they'll get 'the hammer.' Miami's violations were just as bad and they're getting of fairly easy.
