I gotta disagree with you there. He's always looked uncomfortable to me, his threes were wide-open at the end of a blowout, and the offense bogs down when he's in, because he looks to be getting rid of it as soon as he can. Cobbs always looked to me like a kid with talent, but with a bit of an attitude problem. His shooting was terrible at times, but he had pretty good athleticism, compared to Maverick, and I was disappointed he left.
I am not trying to say Mav is great or anything (And I really wasn't impressed with Cobbs ever - granted he was only a freshman) but based on what was said about him, I expected him to look a lot worse. I actually saw moments where I thought he could eventually be a decent back up.
As far as passing the ball right away, I have no problem with that. So many times during this game at least, the Gophers would be moving the ball quickly to the open guy and then Al would get the ball and stand with it, look around for awhile and then decide he wanted to pass, the guy he had wide open, no longer was, and Al got the ball to them too late.
I was really disapointed with Al's offense, short of a few plays, this game. His defense was solid as usual, he got some nice steals,
he didn't finish well at the hoop -the big guys though need to be ready for his pass ... he had some very nice passes and Colton, on one of them, was just staring at the hoop when he would have had an easy dunk had he been paying attention to the ball- but when the offense was going, he'd catch the ball and just stand there missing Rodney or Blake coming off of a screen/cut and being open to make a play, he'd just kind of hold the ball and not really pay attention to where cutters were and I think he missed a lot of open shots for especially Blake, but also for Rodney.
Part of the problem with this game, IMO, was that it was against a lot of guys that Al, Rodney, Blake, Trevor, etc. played against in HS (If i recall from a different thread Rodney had 38 points against one of them) and everyone it seemed wanted to take their "old nemesis" one on one and show how good they were, or it would be the complete opposite of, no you shoot, no you, no you shoot, and the shot clock would wind down to Ralph throwing up a prayer off the top of the backboard. It looked a lot, to me, like the Miami Heat's first game together. Everyone just wanting to go one on one but no one wanting to be agressive and step on anyone's toes.
