Despite all the backs on the roster, there is only one speed back, it seems the the coaches intend on correcting that.

D'Ernest Johnson (RB), a UNC decommit, has also recently said he will be taking an OV.

That's 4 RBs taking OVs, plus Jeff Jones as a likely commit, in what is supposed to be a small class with no senior RBs on the team. Hmmm....

Isn't Gillum a senior??

Updated with Kendrick Holland and Gary Moore for Iowa, Julien Kafo and Dominic McKinzy for Wisky.

Trevon Walters committed to Missouri last week. Is he still coming?

Yes. My guess on Walters is that we are his first pick (he named us the leader just a few days before committing to Mizzou), but the coaches view him as a back up plan to Jones so there isn't a spot for him right now. He probably had to commit to Missouri to secure a spot there just in case.

I don't hink they would bring a backup plan player to a game this early in the season. I believe they plan to take at least two backs.

It seems as though they want at least two backs, if not 3. Either that or they view 1-2 of the RB recruits as DBs or WRs.

Updated with Andre Maloney for the Iowa game.

Simmons, Thompson, and Maloney all will not visit during the Iowa game anymore.

Thompson is instead coming for the Wisconsin game. Maloney the Nebraska game. Simmons is unknown.

So it will just be Walters, Holland, and Moore visiting on Saturday.

RBs are usually some of better, more athletic types. Even if we take that many RB's there will certainly be some position changes.

Updated with changes. Disappointing to not have some of those guys on campus this weekend.

Let's hope Jackson and Johnson enjoy their time.

Anyone know why Gary Moore isn't coming to the Iowa game anymore?

Christian Russell, a JUCO MLB is visiting for the Wisconsin game. The interest in Russell is kind of confusing to me, we have Wilson this year and next and Lynn will supposedly be ready to take over after that. I'm not sure where Russell fits in the equation, maybe they think Lynn will be best served on the outside with Hill and Manuel graduating after this year. Or maybe they think Russell is just too good to pass up.

Maybe depth? You need more than 1 MLB, so when Wilson graduates its JR Lynn and SO Wipson? Would be nice to have another JR or SR MLB.

Updated with Herrod and Gibson for this weekend.

Herrod seems like a lock to commit and the eventual replacement for Kirkwood/Williams. Hill and Gibson are head-scratchers. We have no senior DEs and are pretty deep, so why the need for a JUCO unless they're all-world? Gibson is listed as a TE, and we certainly don't need 3. Maybe Elmore is starting to be viewed as a DE?

Gibson is a heck of an athlete, I'd bet LB or DE, maybe H-back.
Watch his tape, he plays RB/DE/WR at 6'4'' 220, very Deniro Laster/Alex Keith like. He'd be one of my favorite recruits if he commits.
Herrod is one of several power backs they've brought in, maybe a Jones backup plan. I think they take Deron Thompson if he wants to commit, a guy that can play the slot or RB.
Russell is a former UNC commit, big time LB prospect that can play inside or outside with speed. Aaron Hill replacement? We will still be relatively thin at LB with many freshmen/soph. I think a LB JUCO is a good fit.

We finally get our first two DB visits during the Wisky game: Blasingame and James.

Herrod's visit has been rescheduled for the Wisconsin game. I believe that makes 9 visitors for the Battle for the Axe.
