Official Visits: Fall 2012

The four names to watch are Rayfield Dixon, Jeremy Benjamin, Martell Spraight, and Antonio Longino. Spraight and Longino are both J.C.'s and while I agree that with the limited #s we shouldn't be looking at too many J.C. guys, linebacker (and maybe TE) are areas where you can make the case. Hill, Manuel, Edwards, and Beal appear to make a solid 4, but we can't seriously rely on Beal, and the rest are equally unproven.

Dixon has us in his top 4. Benjamin and Longino appear to be leaning elsewhere. Spraight said he's pretty wide open.

FWIW, I've heard that the staff may be looking at Tedric Thompson as a fast OLB in the mold of Edwards or Manuel.

Things will soon get interesting...Can't wait to see who jumps aboard the Gophers train!

So, nobody visited and witnessed our fun weekend? It appears we do have a visit this weekend in Peppers.
Anybody else? Hopefully we add somebody coveted to our list!

Eric Carter has retweeted some of my gopher tweets. He seems pretty excited for his visit on 9/21/12. I wouldn't be surprised if he commits soon after.

I've heard Westerhaus may be an option at MLB if he can put on some weight. I could be wrong, but I really don't see us adding JUCOs to this class unless the staff determines there is a desperate need at a spot for next year. For a recruiting class that's going to be around 12, we need all the freshmen we can get.
I hope Beal has a wonderful career, but I would be very surprised if they go into next season with Beal as the only high percentage prospect to play MLB given his knee history.

with the news of Bauducco (sp?)

retiring, it would be nice to see a few more lb's coming in for visits. imo its a position of need especially with Quinn retiring.

Even more reason to expect a JUCO LB(even 2)to be amongst the next class.

I wouldn't mind a JuCo LB, but a lot of that depends upon how the staff views Westerhaus, Matilus, Lynn, Schultz and Rallis.

If the staff believes those guys are ready to make the next step, I think we'll try not to sign a JuCo. We already have Edwards, Manuel, Beal and Hill returning.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if the staff is trying to bulk up Levine a bit to around 220 ish and switch him to LB as well.

Got this from Ryan Burns

@RyanBurnsGI
GI has learned of another official visitor from last weekend's #Minnesota game. Head to the Gopher Report to find out who.

I love the University of Minnesota

visitors for cuse game

any further updates to this list? read Carter is excited to come for the game, wolitarsky is another interesting one to watch. Be nice to get a couple of commits after a win.

Jacky Marcellus

Looks like he visited last weekend the 14th. He is currently committed to W Virginia, but hadn't seen it listed in this thread.

It would be nice to see 2 WR commits after this weekend. Carter and Wolitarsky seem the most likely as they don't have any other OV's scheduled.

Just updated: Tedric Thompson, Cedric's younger brother, will be here for the Syracuse game on an unofficial visit.

Per Lucas Trickle:

@RyanBurnsGI has confirmed that David Yancey will not visit Minnesota this weekend.

Just a little aside but Tedric Thompson and Drew Wolitarsky play each other a little later in the season.

Blake Williams (2014 TE) from Romeo, MI was at the game

This was a watershed game for recruiting. The crowd was hyped, the team was hyped, the Gophers won. Fukin' A.

Any updates on the recruits that visited? Doesn't sound like anyone gave a verbal, but they all had to enjoy the experience and atmosphere.

I wonder how many of the recruits realize that there is a limited number of scholarships available? There are several WR who are being recruited by Minnesota but we probably will have room for only two of them. You would think the recruits would be aware if they are very interested in Minnesota they wouldn't want to wait too long.

I have always wondered how handled a situation where somebody wants to commit but their preferred choice is still undecided. I read several times before that they will often will tell the recruit that wants to commit that if the undecided recruit doesn't select them then the scholarship is his. Does anybody know more on how this works?

is it normal to have other teams commit's come to visit? I hope its not a waste of time. just curious, fill me in folks.

I went on two official visits after I verbally committed. Mostly just to affirm my decision. However, I know guys who switched schools after verbally committing for various reasons (better scholarship, last minute offer, friend/relative got an offer there, etc.). So it's never over until they sign with recruiting.

Just added Neiko to the list. Donovahn Jones is still listed as a visitor for the Purdue game. Not sure if Rivals hasn't updated this, or if he's keeping his options open.

Aaron Batten, TE from Florida, will be here for Purdue weekend.
