***OFFICIAL UCLA AND CRABBY CRONIN AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

What is interesting, under Medved we win games that we are underdogs for. Under Johnson, we lost games we should have won. Huge difference in coaching. You can see it every game.

I just worry this was a NIL stepping stone for players to more prosperous places.

They lit it up. People are watching.

I do not know, just wondering...

Well, Tyson and Reynolds are out of eligibility. That leaves current starters Durkin, Asuma, and Grove. I don't see why any one of them would leave and I don't know why Crocker-Johnson would either. They'll all get paid here, they would all be likely to get quality minutes, they're playing with guys they know well, and I think it's pretty clear that they respect the quality of the coach. Minnesota has more money now than they did when that group left two years ago and I'm guessing these guys feel that the team could take a big step next season if they all stayed.

In general, yes, but we lost to Penn State, Maryland, and USC this season when we were favored. We weren't an underdog by much today (+1.5).

A poster on a UCLA board referred to us as “low talent mooks”. Who’s enjoying 2-0 in basketball & 1-0 in football since the Bruins joined the Big Ten? (BTW—is it four consecutive basketball wins with the 1997 & 2013 NCAA wins?). Can’t wait to make the LA trip next year and make it five in a row with another win at Pauley Pavilion—the LTM(s) rule!
Does UCLA have fans and a board? Lol

Durkin's face today... thrilled he is playing so.well. Made me happy to see.

What a great coach.

I think we shot the ball really crappy in the Penn St game. USC we got refereed. Maryland might be the only one I agree with you.

Illinois is the only team with less fouls in conf play than the gophs. Yet we are still able to play aggressive enuf with our depleted roster to overachieve. Impressive discipline that Niko has instilled in these guys

Yep- I feel that all of our guys have bought into the Niko system, enjoy playing in it and understand that they are as good as they can be when playing in a system like this under a coach like this.
This ain't Ben or Pitino where the player's ability was the sole driver of his success. These guys + Willis, Vaihola can have great success next year with some added transfers and the incoming frosh.
Players are going to want to come here for reasons beyond just immediate money. That's exciting.

If any coach could get a 6 man rotation B1G team into the NCAA tournament, it would be Niko. Ive seen stranger things happen. I'm not saying it will happen, but it would be quite a story. We play the right way.

Any scuttlebutt from the local HS and AAU coaches as to how they feel about Medved?

Sorry if someone said this, not going to scroll back to check my memory.

Gophers had only 3 turnovers!!!

That's starving the other team of easier points off turnovers. Other team may still win with better talent but will be starved of those easier points.

Things the Gophers can control.

Then you disagree with facts. I was responding to a previous poster's blanket claim that this team wins the games they're supposed to win. I like this team but the poster's claim wasn't entirely correct. You can "would a, should a" all you want but that doesn't change the fact that the team lost those three conference games when they were favored.

Browsed a UCLA board today. It was pretty much like most fan boards after a loss but a number of the game comments suggested that the Gophers did look like they were well coached.

One post, entitled "Here's what annoys me," particularly amused me. It was not entirely accurate, of course, but it was a fair generalization of our players' shooting preferences:

"They had 5 players.

One guy shot threes and no twos.
Two guys shot twos and no threes.
One guy could shoot both.
The fifth guy didn't shoot."

The poster was trying to imply that since their scoring tendencies were obvious, UCLA should have been able to set up a better defense.

Another one I chuckled at was "How do you lose to a team with 6 guys?"

I'll admit that I was pretty full of dread when JCJ went down but this team has been remarkably resilient and the fact that they are defying the odds makes the victories all that much sweeter.

If you've played around with Torvik much, you know that you can adjust the date parameters if you want to get a Team Ranking over a given time period within the season. Today's Torvik ranks the Gophers as #49. Washington has the exact same record for the season and is ranked at #48. Those two teams are the highest ranked teams with losing records.

I was curious to see what the Gophers would be ranked if only the games with the 6-man rotation were included. They are 3-2 in those five games and are ranked at #33 over that time span.

And UCLA ony had 6

9 Turnovers combined for both teams. Most games one team having single digits TOs is a good game.

Reading cues, it seemed to me like Niko was more satisfied with this win than even the Michigan State game. UCLA is a good team and was on their game, and the Gophers matched them punch for punch. When I'm playing cribbage and both players are scoring big, I call it Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots. Yesterday's game was Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, and the Gophers won it.

Another reason it was a great game was the shooting. So fun when they are sinking them over and over. Pumps up the electricity.
