Not sure I would read much into it as it looks like they basically just removed the 3 guys who are officially gone.

That said, I wouldn't be shocked if both stuck around. Gut feeling is that Niko is going to do a better job of retaining players then the previous coach could but we will find out soon.

Why did Niko have them travel to the BTT? They are part of the team. It is a fun experience and team bonding opportunity. If they plan on coming back then will have the opportunity to be there.

Correct. IF they're coming back next season they'll be on the travel roster & on the bench. If they're not coming back they won't make the trip at all.

I don't think it is that cut and dried just yet. Final decisions have almost certainly not been made on a few of these guys yet....on both sides (players on if they are staying and coaches if want to bring certain players back for sure).

I'm guessing there could be players on that travel roster that have eligibility left that will not be on next year's team. Definitely nothing guaranteed at this point. So many moving parts still.

The Gophers are 100% going to add guys from the portal. Niko said yesterday they want size from the portal. My hunch is if they find a big they really like who wants to be a Gopher and he is expensive, but gettable, they would take whatever money they have waiting for Robert V and tell him to investigate moving on. Same with a point guard. With limited roster spots and injury history, they will be selective and looking to upgrade if possible.

There also might be a current guy or two (especially the injured ones) interested in making $15k+ this week before making a final decision.

The portal isn't even open yet. A lot will happen in the next couple of weeks.
 

If any of the other guys are 100% without a doubt coming back next year then we would have heard about it already. I still think a lot do come back but have to imagine there's still negotiations going on with some.

A bunch of them are done deals already. Look for Asuma, Shinholster & Durkin soon. They like to stagger the announcements so everyone gets their moment to shine.

According to Ryan James Niko says the additions from the portal will happen fast.

Sounds like he already has a good idea who he'll be adding, imo.

My guess (like msny people's) is Kyle Jorgenson's in play as another big.

Nolan Groves will be a battle but we seem to be in pretty good shape. I'd be ecstatic if we got him.

Everyone in the country wants 6'10"+ guys who can really play, but they're few & far between, everyone wants them & it's unlikely we can afford those guys.

If Vaihola's healthy (?) he's such a good fit at the 5 for us. Niko's system requires the 5 to come out to the top of the key & start the offense with some frequency so whoever the 5 is has to be a great passer/decision maker & not all bigs fit that.

Durkin just announced that he is coming back. I bet Shinholster announces later today. Tomorrow (Gameday) Asuma announces.
 

Shinholster probably had to play a lot more than he thought or Medved thought this past year. But I really like his overall game/his potential.

Awesome that the core of Asuma, JCJ, Durkin, and Grove have all announced they are coming back.

Add Willis and Vaihola to that and that would make for a really solid returning group to fill in around.

Tough to say what to expect from Shinholster and the 3 freshman but ideally we are in a position where we don't need a ton from them in year one.

I'd expect quite a bit of growth from Shinholster into his 2nd season. If you look at past freshman that played for Niko with similar minutes you will see a lot of growth for those who stuck with him. Kyan went from 1.7 pts to +10pts per game. Raised his shooting % drastically too.
