So we don't have 800 threads with a singular opinion.

NM. Edited in light of subsequent events. No offense was intended.

What we know is what we knew

Bad, bad D line. Weak secondary. Young, real young O line. Me thinks nex week will be a real problem. They beat NIU last year and should be a real proble next week for us. Good news...two items. First, receiver recruits know they will get to play. Second, there's no QB controversy, cuz there's no one to catch Max's throws.

suspect O-line, D-line and secondary does lead to problems.

hoepfully people wil stop looking past teams.

You can't get 1 yard against one of the worst teams in division 1 football.
You have a secondary that lets up over 200 yards passing in a half against a terrible team.

its going to be a longgggggggg year.

What I saw were a lot of players with the same Habits. It's hard to get bad habits (not staying home, fumbles, bad tackling) out after 2 game situations.

But F^%# it pray for Coach Kill. He's had seizures before and talks about it on his cancer fund website: http://www.coachkillcancerfund.org/about.htm

What we saw today was EXACTLY what Jerry Kill said we had. Lack of depth, lack of speed, lack of a pass rush unless we send 6 and then they are still too slow to get to the QB in time to get a sack and a VERY inexperienced QB. Young depth at O-Line and no depth on D-line.

I am glad Jerry is doing it his way...we were never going to be good this year...but we can start to build something. I trust Jerry Kill to do what Brewster couldn't...coach these young kids up. We should get better as the year goes on...but we don't have the pure talent to make mistakes and win a game against anyone.

And F U to all you effing dinks that troll our board after losses so you can talk smack. If I was moderator I wouldn't let any new posters happen on Game Days...these people aren't fans and they can go suck it.

This team lacks serious talent.

Who cares about hurting feelings, get the best players at each position in the game.

Gray @ WR

Shortell @ QB

It is clear that Gray cannot read a defense or go through his progressions. The two interceptions he threw were just inexcusable.

If we are going to suck this year, why not get the freshman some playing time and prepare for the future. It's already going to be a long season, so why not give the young kid a chance for a full game and see what he can do.

Regardless of our lack of depth and whatever else you want to call it, we should never lose to a program like New Mexico State, it is unacceptable and embarrassing.

We're STILL hearing the "coach em up" stuff after THAT? The coaching was horrific in that game. All of this talk of a "real" coach. Let the guy earn that title of a "real" coach and stop assigning qualities to a staff that has proven nothing at the BCS level.

good points. people just didn't want to believe it. it was all coach speak they thought. the good play in the 2nd half against USC just brought out more of the "we are better than everyone thinks" attitude.

long way to go with this program under Jerry Kill which he has said himself.

hopefully is all well with Coach Kill.

I though we were going to get smoked by USC last week because I thought we were going to see today's team down in LA. I am not surprised by this at all. Jerry Kill went 1-10 his first year at Northern Illinois. He's not a miracle man. It takes a long time to turn things around. However, I am not even worried about the game or season anymore. I hope Kill can come back healthy and coach...it's almost like fate refuses to let us have a good team or something. Finally get a great coach and this happens. Just horrible.

What an absolutely terrible, poor taste comment. To take a shot like this at Kill after what happened at the end of the game is truely disturbing.

He posted before the incident happened.

That is on of the problems. The mighty 'BCS' level. There are plenty of teams in BCS conferences that stink it up. Plenty. I am just amazed at what some BCS fans think of other teams that aren't BCS. Like it is some type of cake walk. I would have taken Kill's fewer scholarship D-1 team at SIU over one of Mason's teams. We could hang and at times beat the almighty Big 10...even a team that would finish 5th in the Big 10. Kill's record against BCS teams is just fine.

Total arrogance.

Now I am going to go back and watch my D-1AA Salukis try to beat an SEC team. It ain't pretty at the moment, but they are starting to make a game of it.

First off, I think the biggest issue is the coaching staff. They do not play to the Gophers personnel's strengths. The coaches just call plays to what they are use to. If you watch the whole game, you'll see the coaching staff get out coached. Secondly, tell Gray to hustle more, he seriously is lackluster out there. On the play that he got caught running the bootleg, he should have thrown the ball away, instead, he just went down. Then there was a play where he was going to run another bootleg and he stumbled. Instead of getting up and trying to make a play, he just stayed down. Then there were at least 3 or 4 runs where he just tip toed his way. He is so hard to bring down if he's actually running full force, but nope, he doesn't run full force all the time. The defense definitely needs work also. I don't see a lot of the usual missed tackles that plagues the Gophers but the players don't seem to know how to take the right angles. Lots of bad miscalls by the refs. A few critical drops, especially with Shortell in there that could have sustained drives. All in all, at least now we can stop dreaming and realize that any win, will be a blessing. Coach Kill is a genuine coach, and we are headed in the right direction, but most of the players aren't Coach Kill's players yet, so he's doing the best he can with what he inherited.

Get well Coach!

O-Line is lead by 3 Sr's.

I don't think there's a secret insight to be made here. Situation is obvious:

1) We have a QB who is tentative (happy feet on a draw?).

2) A constipated offensive line.

So we got beat by what we thought was an inferior team. maybe we are the inferior team. right now we have no place to go but up (I know this has been the feelling for 30+ or more years). I know this team won't go 0-12. much tougher opponent next week. lets see what happens. time to rally for the coach and team.

We aren't a good enough team to get away with getting inside the 10 yard line twice and coming away with 0 points, and missing a field goal. Can't expect to win when that happens. Tough luck on the Royston call too. Tough day overall

Play of the Game (I'm repeating myself):

Gray airmailing seven points in the end zone. Next play: INT.

howeda7 I do apologize.

No problem. I meant it to delete it earlier so that it wouldn't be taken in poor taste, but didn't get around to it. In any event, I wish Coach Kill the best and it was never meant as a shot at him anyway but rather MN sports fans.

McKnight dropping that slant where the defender fell down hurt too.

How's he supposed to do that?

I am not sure what happened to our receiving core during the last week, but there were way too many drops. The one that hurt the most has to be McKnight wide open to the end zone to tie. Also when can we get a kicker?

This is truly one of the dumbest blocks of text I have ever read. IT'S BEEN TWO GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can't expect a bunch of players with Brewsters habits to buy into a system of doing things after TWO LIVE GAMES!
