You can punt on 4th and short in the 1st quarter as there is time left. When you have the ball and the lead with 4 minutes to go you control your destiny. tbh i think if he goes early and they punch us in the mouth, we're never discussing it being close in the 4th. Now you could say they Ole Miss it, and call something dumb, but they were hammering us on the sneak.

regardless though yes he did go for it when he should've at the end and that should be commended to have the stones for it

The starting D was basically on the punt return team. Future NFLer Joyner gave up the edge on the fake punt. The defense then proceeded to give up first down after first down after first down. They shit the bed.
 



Gotta go for the touchdown there, did Fleck really think our defense would stop them?

Gopher fans are ok with <50% conference win percentage and winning 25% of trophy games.

They forced them in a punt situation. That wasn’t the regular defense that was on the field for the fake punt. If they call the holding on Joyner on that 3rd down play, it’s likely to be longer than 4th and 1 and PSU likely actually punts.

Fleck is a good, not great coach and we are a good, not great program. If he's fired, the next coach is far more likely to do worse, not better. This season is a mild disappointment, because we should be 8-3 right now, not 6-5.

That was a really good game. We just need our OC to keep getting better. Brosmar is a very good QB. PJ still plays too conservative. There were chances to get a bigger lead in the first half. PSU is way more talented with very good coaches. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if we lose next week, hate to say it. This was the game to win. This team hasn’t been fun to watch since 2019. It was sort of fun to watch today, but the O wasn’t good enough again.
 

Well, you got to hand it to Penn State, Franklin went out and WON the games, huge balls. Think about the big plays by both teams in the 4th. We on goal line on 2nd down, run a screen pass to a 6'7" 360 lb linemen, against the #4 Defense in the Nation. Horrible call, Penn State go for a fake punt on your own 34. They just made a few more plays. Also, sorry to all you Perich lovers, he got burned on the 4th down at end, He was not going to be in the play, Just do your job, he got completely turned around. If he plays it right, they probably stop them. PENN STATE MADE THE PLAYS, GOPHERS DIDNT. STORY OF THE SEASON.
 

You guys need to get ahold of yourselves. The team played well against a playoff team and was in position to win the game. Poor officiating on the PI call. Defense needed a stop on the last possession and couldn’t make it happen. PSU was playing for a chance at the national championship and were rewarded for aggression. The sky is not falling and we did some really good things today. Ultimately, a Loss on the balance sheet, but one of the better football games I’ve seen this year. Let’s go get the axe and crush Becky’s postseason hopes.
 

If you're calling for Fleck to be fired after this loss, or this season, you don't want to know what this team would look like in this era if he left and all the players bounced. Look at Wisconsin, with a "homerun" playoff coach, may not make a bowl.

You sure about that? Fake punt was run inside the “edge”, and I don’t think Joyner was on the field.

Bingo. Getting the Axe back, while knocking Bucky out of bowl contention and improving our own bowl positioning would be a nice way to cap a regular season where we were projected to win four games. Especially after the way the season began.
