***OFFICIAL NEBRASKA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

They also did a good job taking away our basket cuts. Their weak side defender was there for it, and the guy getting basket cut just rotated to the weak side. We probably should've run our cuts tighter, especially if it was a guy like Tyson, because they could've had some post up opportunities. Disclaimer: I didn't watch the 2nd half, so maybe that's an adjustment that was made. But I'm guessing getting blown out in the 2nd half would indicate it wasn't.

Exactly!!! Cuts to the hoop were non existent

No, but you made the comment. I'll take your non response as a NO as well. I have been to four games so far this year, and will probably make it to 3-4 more. How about you?
I must have hit a nerve for you to turn it into measurement competition. I'm an alumni of UMN. I had football student season tickets the whole time I was there. I sat through the butt kicking by Nebraska in the Dome. I've given quite a lot to UMN with nothing in return. Well, there is the continued embarrassment both on the academic and athletic fronts which keeps me from being able to hold my head high around in-laws and relatives who cheer for Hawkeyes, Cornhuskers, Cyclones, Badgers and Illini.

Deflating game yesterday. We just don't have the players agreed with what's been posted earlier.

Niko will get this thing turned around. It's just going to take a little longer than I want it to take.

I'd imagine we'll progress next year, but there's still a lot to be done roster wise. He's got his work cut out for him.

I hate to admit it, but look how patient NEB has been with Hoiberg. I'd say that's paying off just a little bit. That's a great team.

Waiting is annoying.

Undoubtedly.
What has that accomplished?
Have you been accused of being an impatient person? I'm pretty confident no one has ever accused you of being optimistic.

I feel had Niko not lost 3-4 players to injury the team would be a couple of wins better at this point. Playing a 6 1/2 man rotation starts to wear a team down. I feel for the first time since probably Clem this team finally has a quality coach that will have success here with the Gopher.

Too funny. Just asked a simple question that led to this response, so who's nerve got struck?
Anyway, here we go. Have had at least two Gophs football ST for the last 17 years. Had four football ST all though college. Have had two hockey ST off and on over the last 10 years. Go to 6-8 BB games a year. Been to probably 15 baseball games over the past five years, along with a couple women's hockey, volleyball and softball games.

I was at the game today, so just 1 fans take…
First half was genuinely encouraging. The Gophers played tough, physical defense, made a few mistakes but also hit some good shots and looked locked in. In the second half, though, both my seatmate and I felt something was off. They came out either overconfident or completely listless—I honestly couldn’t tell which. There were back-and-forth baskets, some bad Reynolds turnovers, the strange timeout, and then the Cade injury. More than anything, the contrast was jarring: a hyped, energetic team in the first half that took a nice lead followed by a group that looked flat and lifeless in the second. It was hard to tell if they thought they’d already won—or if everyone suddenly came down with the flu.

I watch or attend most games. First time it was this stark to me.
I feel like Asuma picking up his 3rd foul early in the second half played a big role in the struggles. Reynolds is good but he is not a primary ball handler and tends to be sloppy with passes at times which hurt us multiple times.

With a depleted roster like we have the team needs everything to go right in order to win (especially against really good teams).

I think one of the silver linings of these injuries, beyond Grove and Shinholster getting a ton of minutes, is learning Asuma needs to be the full-time PG on next year's team.

He's not a pure shooter by any stretch of the imagination, but he is a guy who can keep defenses honest (unlike Reynolds).

He shouldn't be counted on as the starting SG next year (he never seemed too comfortable in that role).

Willis is another liability shooting, and seeing how the offense works, those two guys getting open looks isn't ideal.

I love how Asuma plays, and think he has all the intangibles a Big Ten PG needs. He is a streaky shooter who will at least force his defender to play up on him, rather than sagging in the lane, which will be huge.

I think if we consistently have four shooters on the floor next year, we'll see the Gophers' KenPom offensive metrics skyrocket. We're having to pass away way too many wide-open looks this year, and opposing defenses can pack it in and muck up the cutting lanes.

Not really, a defensive liability.
He scored 16, and made four twos and couple FT's, I agree he's a liability of defense when he has to go 1v1, but his positioning is solid, wouldn't say his offense was the issue as he showed some versatility against Nebby. He's pretty too many minutes, but we are also down to six guys Niko is willing to play if Tyson is out. Be interesting if he plays Gizzi or Turner more now. Tyson out, Omot, Willis, Vhiaola out, that's half our original rotation, not sure how much Stephens was expected to help, but if he was truly a sniper from three I imagine he would have been in the plans.

Well, I call it PTSD from Gopher Football 1981-1986. I've made it to football, Men's BB, Men's Hockey and Volleyball as finances allow. It might go up once my kid graduates from a college.

The problem with Asuma is that he is no threat to go to the rim 1v1. No hops. He consistently pulls up after ending his dribble at the low post and scrambles to get rid of the ball. He can make open 3’s and defends pretty well. There is a lot of room to improve as we could get a transfer upgrade.

Asuma has tried to go to the rim and has had the ball swatted away. He has learned to play within his skill set. The old adage of "know thy self" is true.

Nebraska is well coached. In many ways, they out-Gophered the Gophers the other day.

A little late to the party, as I've been dreadfully busy, but I have to say: the atmosphere in that building was electric. Granted, many of the butts in the seats were wearing red, but it felt great to feel that excitement and see the upper deck mostly occupied. I remarked to my seat mates that this is happening faster than I thought it would. It won't be long now.
