***OFFICIAL NATIONALLY RANKED IOWA AT MINNESOTA RIVALRY GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Who pissed in Shon Morris's Wheaties??? He literally sounded like he was gonna cry when Iowa lost. I understand his homerism in the last game vs. Northwestern but o'mon.....

I'm pretty sure he's gonna ask Howard out on a date after the game.....

Well, Howard DID have an unexpectedly great game. As a Gopher fan, I didn't hear a problem with Morris. It IS kinda surprising that none of the last 3 shots went down, as they were all decent looks(though rushed) at the basket.

Also not sure why it bugs some people so much when an announcer or crew, expresses admiration for the other teams players, coaches or the way they are playing at any point. I was on the edge of my sofa for the entire game and didn't notice any obvious favoritism one way or the other. It's as if some people believe that the announcer isn't openly rooting for my team at the same level as me, they must be rooting for the other team. Believe me, game announcers pray that they get a game that comes down to the last second every single night.

Hate to rain on your parade but lets not put too much lipstick on what could have easily been an Iowa delivered pig. The Gophers were up 14 pts with 6 minutes to play, and but for Iowa missing 3 wide open 3's, they would have blown this game. So let's not get over our skis.
This is easily the worst post I have seen on this board in a long time, maybe ever, and a shoe in for the Golden Douche award. Well done. Can’t stop shaking my head and laughing.

Yeah, I think the NCAA changed the rules recently so this doesn't actually count as a win. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh, I forgot about the other NCAA rule that when a team gets up by 12, the game should be over. So I guess things just kind of worked themselves out.

Iowa literally was playing iso the whole second half, launching 3s (props for making them).

Refs were awful to us first and Tyson and Asuma had to sit in the bench because of it. Asumas block was a thing of beauty.

They favored us late which was nice as we were in the bonus.

Officiating was bad both ways IMO.
And the fouls were pretty even if you take out the intentional fouls at the end.

How many had the Gophers 3 and 1 after four games? Niko! Niko! Unbelievable win!!
Reynolds coming up huge lately!
Reynolds seemed to be the only guy who could guard Stirtz. In the second half, Iowa really worked the high screen to get the Gophers to switch off to another defender and Stirtz went off. I loved that one possession very late in the game, we started with Asuma as the primary defender on Stirtz, and when they used the high screen, we were able to switch Reynolds on to him. Kinda wish we would have figured that out a little sooner, but Iowa would have probably run him back and forth a few times like they did once in the first half to get the Gopher defender they preferred on him. But it worked out well for that second (or was it 3rd) to last Iowa possession.

Gonna have plenty of time to talk about how giddy I am about how things have looked so far with Niko but I’m really happy for the players. Expectations were understandably not high heading into the season, made worse by the injuries they’ve dealt with and having a couple rough losses early in the season.

The buy in and commitment to trusting the system from these guys has been great. Who knows how the rest of the season will go but so glad they’ve got to experience a hint of what The Barn can feel like, cool memories for these kids.

The way some of these guys rose to the occasion when Tyson had to sit with foul trouble was really encouraging for the rest of the year, maybe you can steal a minute or two for him to get a blow every now and then. I know there’s some frustration with Reynolds but get that kid on an all-conference defensive team! Gonna read comments from in game until I pass out lol, Go Gophers!

A real gopher fan right there.

I need to pen a more comprehensive piece about Medved and how he's opened my eyes to coaching... but, for now, let it be said that I've not seen better coaching at MN ever.
I couldn’t agree more. We have had much better players, thus better teams, but NOT better coaching. I’m referring to the post-Clem area. Maybe Clem and Musslemen were good as at coaching, but I’m not the one to make that comparison. It is so fun to watch.

I know what I wrote is factual. And there is no doubt Iowa had the momentum at the end of the game. Odds are the Iowa wins in overtime.
Dude, get a smaller shovel. Your posts out here have been very bad takes. Improve your best or maybe just stop posting.

I have never seen a coach here do more with this level of talent. He has the guys believing and playing within themselves. What a blast that game was...so fun to send those "let's go Hawks" fans back home with a loss. I love the future of this program!

Couch Coach Comment: Why do we have Durkin doing the inbounds pass at the end of a game like this? Iowa was going to foul right away, We need him to be one of the players potentially going to the line. Put Reynolds as the inbounds guy.
He is also a little slower so it'd be hard to get him the ball. Niko probably like his length, IQ, and passing ability.

Just read his miserable post history. He’s a Ben Johnson super fan who’s been as negative as possible about Medved. This run of competence and competitive basketball is absolutely crushing his soul.
At least they are fewer now that we're playing better

Imagine if Niko had Elijah Hawkins, Cam Christie, Dawson Garcia, Pharrel Payne, and Mike Mitchell.

Watching this team of rag tag players beat ranked teams and thinking about that Ben Johnson team makes me realize just how bad of a coach he really was
I think you meant to say elite.

Maybe he IS Ben Johnson? If that is the case, care to release a statement on your firing and Gopher tenure?

In addition to his defense, Iowa had a hell of a time guarding Reynolds. We didn't have a height advantage on Iowa but we seemed to have a strength advantage in this game.

Great post. Toward the end, the Gophs were switching on everything, which freed Stirtz up not being guarded by Reynolds. Tyson isn't a bad defender, but he had trouble when he got switched on Stirtz.

This is why Reynolds was the hero of the game--doubly for offense and defense. The other hero: Asuma for sinking those free throws.

So you dont know what a "fact" is. Cool.

Oh wait...you are Ben Johnson fan. Tell me, how long did it take Ben to win this many Big Ten games? How long did it take for him to beat 2 ranked Big Ten teams in one season?

You are a sad individual.
