***OFFICIAL NATIONALLY RANKED IOWA AT MINNESOTA RIVALRY GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Overtime can be really different. Sometimes, when a squad finally catches up at the end of the game after battling through the deficit, are at risk of celebrating that they tied up the game. Then, mentally can be shot and lose anyway. A good coach will remind their hoopsters that they haven't won anything, yet, and need to settle down and finish! "YOU HAVEN'T WON ANYTHING YET!!"
It often seems like the team on its heels comes out and wins in OT, as if that buzzer kills the momentum and the other team can regroup. But sometimes you get scenarios like that Kansas TCU game the other night as well

I watched the game later Tuesday (knowing the result) and it was still very stressful so I can't imagine what that did to you guys who were watching it live, much less there in person! I felt like we got a very bad whistle that last ~6 minutes of game time culminating with that JCJ "jump ball" call after we'd been called for numerous touch fouls that awarded Iowa 2 points with a stopped clock.

I thought we were the significantly better team for the vast majority of that 40 minutes and I feel like it was really important to come away with the win as a loss in that situation can easily create a tailspin. JCJ hitting that 3 after we actually went down 1 was huge and credit to Niko and staff for running something that resulted in a wide open look. Although we missed our share of clutch free throws, Isaac and Bobby both hit a pair (I believe they both did against Northwestern too?) when we had to have them.

I am not watching a lot of college basketball this year, but I kind of can't avoid seeing some of Iowa. I was very surprised that we matched up as well with them as we did. None of these 3 conference wins has really looked like an upset to me, which is a dramatic shift from when I couldn't tell if Minnesota or San Francisco was supposed to be the high major team watching the game from Sanford Pentagon . Niko is now 2-0 against the other other new coaches in the league (and beat the other 2 former Drake coaches) which is a good sign. We dug such a hole with that stretch of basketball from the 2nd half of the Missouri game through the Thanksgiving tournament, but we've started to dig out of it.

Oh one final thing: What a spectacular block by Asuma on that dunk attempt by Stirtz! Hate seeing the kid get robbed of a play like that by a bad call.

Wasn't that an amazing block!! The body control to stay vertical along with the athletic ability to get up that high with both hands was fantastic. I even liked that he didn't go crazy complaining after he got called for a foul, that showed incredible restraint!!

Great recap, and good call on the Asuma block and JCJ hitting that huge 3.

Good stuff. I agree, we were the better team throughout and I kept thinking for once we need the W to show it. We got it and I'm still smiling.

I think it was Reynolds--but it could have been Tyson--in the post-game interview who said, "We were ready" when asked about a potential overtime. He said it with a steely look. I think they would have been ready.
