***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS SANTA CLARA THIRD-PLACE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

12 three pointers. This gopher team is a bunch of bums. Would they even win the MIAC d3 league this year? Do they defend at all?

SC coach has had a great strategy to press constantly when we are so short staffed.
Combine it with SC shooting lights out and you have a 31 point deficit.

I'm going to say that many nascent programs would love to be us. 50,000 enrollment and that many more alumni than practically any institution, so an enviable pool of potential donors. Being in a large city can be a disadvantage, but we've also seen the advantages in our time. This has been the toughest ticket in town and the talk of the town at its best. You'll never dissuade me of the potential of this situation. To me, some people's unconditional pessimism is wholly illogical.
The whole "woe is us" line is just plain crap.
There isn't a single solitary reason this program can't be successful.

Crazy but seeing talent like Daniel Oturu or Amir Coffey where the maroon and gold seems like lightyears away right now. We feel like a division II squad.

Call me crazy, but I'd consider ditching this stupid zone after about the 30th 3 pointer.

What is shocking to me is that these are the guys Niko brought in to the program? That is extremely concerning. Gotta give him an F on that grade. He better step up big time or he’ll end up the worst coach in Gopher history.

Minnesota wont compete until we recruit players. Big Ten quality players. We bring in 8 mid major players every year. Other teams get mid majors too, but they are to fill one spot alongside the other 4 studs. We dont have big ten talent. Actually when you look at it we are 0-2 in the west coast conferenceand we havent played st marys or gonzaga yet lol

You're the one saying "woe is us."

There are many reasons why this program can't go from broken down on a rural dirt road to winning the Indy 500 in one year. Your lack of patience is impressive.

On paper (preseason KenPom), this was a top-75 roster. That's part of what's so aggravating about this.

As bad as this game as gone, I'm looking at it as this: our best ball handlers is out, our best rebounder and only legit big is out, Omot is still out, and Stephens is out for the year. Not using it as an excuse, but we are short-handed against a defense that guards you full court, where you need multiple ball-handlers. It wasn't likely a recipe for success. Still believe in what Niko will do, down the road, even further on down the season if we get healthier. These games have teachable moments, and we'll get better. Tonight just wasn't it.

We have a lot more NIL than Santa Clara- yet Santa Clara has a lot more talent on the floor. We will need cash but Niko is going to have to find the right guys as well.
It would help to have 2 injured starters and 1 (maybe 2) rotation guys in the lineup. Need to be healthy and stable before I’m ready to make definitive declarations about this team.

Have you forgot the number of guys who DNP due to injury? Between you and USAF your basketball IQ can't be higher than 50.

They are being allocated ~$6 million from the revenue sharing. It's not where I'm sure Indiana/MSU etc are but it's probably on part with the majority of the B1G.
If we're on par with a "majority" of the other teams in the B1G then that would seem to imply that Niko can't identify and "buy" talent and/or mold them into any resemblance of a "team". Not even Ben's teams were this poor from a fundamental standpoint.

Whether you liked the Medved hire or not, this is some embarrassing stuff and my cup of patience has runneth empty for this program. That's not Niko's fault but it's the reality I live in as a Gopher fan.

You're right about that, of course, but the individual players have underperformed their histories (aside from Tyson over last year).

He didn't get the right PG and that hurts a lot. I think he was counting on bringing Evans and didn't have an adequate back-up plan when UNC nabbed him. JCJ and Tyson can play. Durkin is OK when he's just a role player.

In the parlance of the "love languages" book, your love tank was low going into this new regime, and it didn't take long for that to be exhausted. It's how we're all feeling.
