OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS MICHIGAN LITTLE BROWN JUG IN-GAME THREAD

I saw the way Duke gagged a W away to Miami and can't decide whether Duke or the Gophers took the bigger crap in their own bed. I guess it doesn't matter, a gut punch loss is still a gut punch loss.

As others have said, play calling there in that situation is not rocket science.

1st and goal, QB sneak
Timeout
2nd Pass play, incomplete?
3rd FG

Nothing wrong with going for the win. How they got there, that's another matter,

How is it possible to be as stupid as we were at the end? How is it possible we didn't know the clock was running? How is it possible that we run that abomination of a play from the half yard line on 1st down? How is it possible that we decide to pin the game on our average at best offensive line vs. Michigan's amazing defensive front? HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?!!!!!

This. Run 'em out of town on a rail, folks. That Missouri bowl game was the precursor to this debacle, btw. Coaching matters!

Said this in another thread. But on any run refs likely have to review it giving you time to line up and call a play or spike it or whatever.

Just such an awful first down call.

Nobody can blame them for going for the win but let's do it on something we actually have a chance on. Line up and play power football, call a play and run it down their throats, if they stop it I can live with that a lot better the outcome that actually happened! Let's lose on something we're suppose to be good at not a QB sneak which had absolutely no chance from the beginning! A sneak is way different at the goaline than it is on a 4th and inches at mid field.
One question I do have is what the hell is Limegrover always call these slow developing play action fakes on 3rd downs/situations that defenses are lined up to bring the blitz? Give ur QB a chance bud! Also why the hell u call that play with 19 seconds left when u suppositly know the clock starts on the ready for play. Obviously u didn't, this game primarily goes on the back of Limegrover! I like the staff but his play calling in crunch time scares the hell out of me!

I know I can't be the only one thinking why oh why couldn't Wolitarsky have been just a little bit taller or been able to reach just a bit further to break to goal line before his knee hit down. Not blaming him at all. Was a great pass and catch. A fine, fine play on his and Mitch's part there. Just would have taken all other possibilities out of play. Of course we would have still needed to kick off with about 15 seconds left, but still.

I was thinking the same thing. Fact is the guy was really awful all night and any legit NCAA WR would've walked into the end zone on that play. He wasn't hit, the pass was on target, he went to his knee's to be sure to secure the pass because he should be playing for St. Olaf.

So ummmm Michigan was way offside on the final play. See below.

hahaha way to go, officials. You didn't think the officials would make sure the ending was fair, even at our place on the first game after the beloved head coach's heartful retirement, did you?

I think you might be overthinking this just a bit my man.

Now I know how Michigan fans felt two weeks ago. This was is going to hurt for a long, long time!

Ahh. We had a ****ty season already. It's not like this win meant birth in title game. It really didn't mean anything.

Bingo, I HATE the QB sneak at the goal line.

I will defend Claeys he doesn't call the offensive plays. They had a great game plan. He said this week he will be listening to offensive play calls. Doesn't mean he knows how long each play takes. He is not going to overrule is cordinator in that situation. Sorry not on Cleays.

And if you are going to QB sneak the final play of the game, then just reach the ball over the top of the line over the end zone.

Fair. But he has all the authority in the world to call time out. They had no business pissing away 10 seconds on the 2nd to last play.

No, the situation we are in is not in any way like that situation. They have their all-star coach, we just lost our coach. They have a bunch of blue chip recruits and a long tradition of sustained success, along with very few debacles like happened there. They all know that they will win a lot of games, and soon. We get this punch in the gut almost once per season. And with our coach gone, there is no clarity for the future. These two cases, both ending debacles, couldn't be much more different.

Anyone else having severe difficulty sleeping? I've been a Gopher and Minnesota sports fan all my life, I've always gotten over things, but I cant seem to calm my mind after this loss..
It keeps going thru my mind, 'what was going thru limeys mind' on that last play call..

my first thought after the touchdown was called back (19 seconds left with the clock stopped after a first down): either spike it (as we had a first down) to run another play, or quickly get to the line, run a QB sneak. if that fails, you still have timeout to burn and kick a field goal to go into overtime at home, with a raucous crowd.

I woke up 3 times last night thinking about the game. It took me at least 15 min of tossing and turning to fall back asleep each time. I know it's just a game, and it's stupid to be so emotionally invested, but I'm sorry...can't help it.

You just described my evening and current thoughts.

You're definitely not alone with this. Even though we got an extra hour last night, I feel like I hardly slept at all.

Same here. Didn't wake up multiple times, but definitely took a while to finally drift off to sleep. Will always be emotionally invested and love our team.....good times and bad.
