same starters as first two games and Oto played some great D and got the rebounds

I really wish Joe Coleman would show us a jump shot, but I think I'm done hoping. He doesn't have one, and he will not be effective in the Big Ten without one.

Didn't see the game, how did Mbakwe pick up a technical?

It was pretty weak. Other guy fell down. Trevor got tangled up with him. Other guy got pissed off for whatever reason and pushed him. Trevor walked away. Apparently that's a double technical nowadays.

The Gophers have limited their three opponents this season to a combined 26.6 percent shooting.

I have a feeling if he was that innocent, Tubby would have put him back in.

Overall, a decent game, especially on defense. Austin is playing really well also. I'm thinking Quincy Lewis like. First half Trevor was more active and looked better. Walker also looked better. Three negatives: looked shaky against their press, especially in the first half; still too many turnovers; they got a lot of offensive rebounds.

Beginning to lose hope that Oto will help our outside shooting. Really put up some ugly looking shots tonight.

First game I have been able to see.

Mo looked really good. The best offensive post moves on the team. He has lost some weight. Really fun to watch him clear out space. He is so smooth that he moves people out without getting called for fouls.

EE looked really good on defense and rebounding.

Rodney and the Hollins(s) looked very good as expected.

Trevor flatened the defender, then stumbled and spent a second or two too long standing over the fallen player. TSU players took offense. I think the double technical was the officials attempt to keep things under control.

Excellent team defense.

Oto had some good rebounds. I wish he and Joe could hit some jumpers. Shots looked ugly.

Agree. They were ugly, ugly looking shots. He also looked tentative with the ball in the half-court set. He certainly didn't make the case for more minutes tonight.

Trevor wasn't that innocent. He took a little elbow/swing at the guy. Nothing super malicious but he didn't just walk away.

Didn't see that during the tussle. I guess I didn't have the best angle. O well.

Trevor just needs to stop with the drama - off court and on - and just play ball. The almost incident didn't need to be anything, but Trevor made it into something. Then he goes over and whines to the official. Just tuck your shirt back in, dude, and join your team in the huddle.

Did Williams have as good of game as the stats say?

Heard on the radio afterward that Rodney is about 80% from the floor in the three games. He's a force to be reckoned with right now. He's playing so confidently. He's calmly getting himself close to the basket and getting quality looks, taking what the defense is giving him.

What I thought was another really good team performance tonight...players are beginning to gel. The starters get another early run-up and play energetic D. Can't overstate how much Austin impresses - so aware and playing with control. The Bigs aren't yet putting up a lot of points, but they are a presence and I'm liking EE more all the time. JoCo showed good hustle on a late game defensive effort (with his team up by 25 pts) - always a good sign. Oto's shot GPS was off, but he was clearing the glass on D-bounds all night.
For the first time, the demographics of the Barn really hit me. Went for a concourse lap at half-time and witnessed some real issues with patrons and stairs. Back in the arena, the student section: an island of enthusiasm in a sea of age. Oh well, so it goes... Good win Gophers!

I've been to all three games so far (plus the exhibitions) and I've gotta say that the team overall looks sloppy at times. Even so, I'm encouraged that they've absolutely dominated and toyed with these teams despite not playing their best.

They are very disruptive on D.

I must be watching a different game than most of you. I thought it was a dominant win against our best opponent thus far. Game was never in question because of excellent D. This team is playing some of the best team D since the Clem days. Defense in college wins basketball games!
I'm more concerned at this point in seeing good ball rotation and they are getting the ball to the back side quickly and are looking to move the ball to the post with seals from Mo, Trevor and Rodney. This was not something they were effective at last year early on.

Good win!

Some positives I noticed. Mo Walker looks good. If he could just get himself into shape/slightly more muscular build to sustain extended minutes and higher activity level the dude would be a monster. Like better than Trevor monster. Maybe that's just a pipe dream but the potential is there. Trevor seems like only a fraction of his previous self, and playing at about 50-75%. It seems like one of those injuries where you are always conscience of it until it feels almost normal. It seems he's favoring it, and still a bit hesitant to go 100% on it, which is expected. Rodney Williams looked like the best player on the floor for most of the game and he should. Rodney's gotta step up and take over the team this year IMO. And some negatives: way too many turnovers, the team looked incapable of running/breaking a 2-3 zone, and Maverick Ahamnisi should never touch the court. Other than that, I was impressed with the new look Barn, and the Gophers squad this year - it was my first game this year. Anyone know what's up with Buggs?

I'm not really worried about the reserves as much (sans Mbakwe), as you're gonna get inconsistent play from them most of the time anyway, cause they're role players anyway. Hopefully they can just continue to improve and just when given a chance, they provide the spark they need to at the right time.

What we haven't seen in recent years, is consistency from our starting unit, and right now, we're getting that as good as we've seen it since our 15-4 start three years ago. Those guys are coming out focused and getting things off the right way. That goes a long way toward allowing the team to reach it's max potential.

The defense has been downright dominating so far too, and I think Eliason has quietly been a good impact player. He's not getting the shots and points, but I think he's really been playing pretty well.

Tubby met with his parents and they all decided redshirting would be best for him, as he wouldn't get a boatload of minutes anyway. Then he can use the time to bulk up.

Yes, Buggs is redshirting:

Go Gophers!!

The Gophers have limited their three opponents this season to a combined 26.6 percent shooting.

This is how I know that posters on GH are simply here to gripe. Not a single person commented on the post of this statistic. This is the single most important thing that we can take away from the first three games. They have been absolutely relentless on defense, and they deserve credit for this.. regardless of opponents.

For the gripers, these first three games have been an experiment of sorts to see how Tubby can best use the depth of his bench. The more PT that some of the deeper bench players get, the more experience they will be able draw from when the minutes matter most.

How about this for a change.. hallelujah, the team is 3-0 and looking like they stand a real chance of beating Duke, the will be #5 team in the country!! Now, just get past Richmond and fly to the Bahamas.

A LOT of people have commented on how great our D has been. The fact that someone hasn't picked that specific stat is in no way an indication that we aren't recognizing the suffocating D.

Go Gophers!!

Also, it looks like Ingram has built on his late season improvement, looks like a guy who could definitely contribute and be a factor in some games this year.

Definitely. He is essentially Trevor-lite which is an incredible asset to have off the bench and as the 5th best front court player.

Gophers half court offense is better, but still needs improvement. I realize they were in a zone, but too much passing around the perimeter sometimes. Need more screens and attacking the basket and dishing or finishing. Post up or get screens from Mo every time down the floor. Watching them try and defend him was hilarious. I thought he also looked good getting up and down the floor.

Also, the D is absolutely unreal. It is very very impressive this year. Can't say enough about how good it has looked.

Lastly, Trevor has a little KG in him with altercations lol KG will throw an elbow and then put his hands up and complain he didn't do anything. Trevor absolutely was a part of that altercation and he ran the KG afterward to near perfection.

Mo and Trevor

Mo isn't a great athlete. Even if he lost 30 lbs he would never have Trevor's athletism. That being said he has post and perimeter skills, which is unique is someone his size. Reminds me a little of Oliver Miller at Arkansas. The big O could really shoot it though. Mo doesn't get up and down the floor too well and this could limit his time also. A good current comparison would be Derrick Nix, Michigan St. a former 300 lb guy who slimmed down to 270 and is now a good contributer in the low post. Mo could be better though as Nix has no outside skills.

I agree on Trevor he is not quite there mentally in trusting his knee.
