IT'S FLOYD WEEK!!!! IT'S HATE WEEK!!! IT'S RIVALRY WEEK!!

I have no idea how Iowa has issue after issue off the field and Ferentz keeps his job. It's time for Fleck to beat him. It's time to get to .500. It's time to get a winning streak going. It's time to keep Floyd home.

It's time.

GET 'ER DONE FLECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the Gophers lose tomorrow they will set an embarassing record for their longest losing streak to Iowa in the history of the program. The Gophers have lost an absolutely humiliating 20 of the last 27 matchups to Iowa, a team they had historically dominated. If they cannot win this year at home on a short week against a first year staring QB, I really don't want to hear about this being a rivalry anymore than the Wisconsin game is. Minnesota simply has to do more than field a team to participate in a rivalry. Enough of the losing.

This year Iowa has lost on the road to a Purdue team missing their head coach and Rondale Moore. They lost at home to a Northwestern team that spotted them two fumbles and a 14-0 lead. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe this game will be any different than the last 5 for Minnesota. Until I see otherwise, I expect this game to follow the same script of Iowa winning the battle of the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and leaving the field with another win.

This is a very important game for the program. Lose, and you will have gone 0-3 at home (all "rivalry" games) since what appeared to be a turning point win over Penn State and there's a very likely scenario that the Governor's Bell is the only trophy in the case at the start of the '21 season. Any momentum that the program had will be completely gone (barring winning at Wisconsin) and PJ will be starting over in '21 in trying to build this fanbase. Win, and you all of a sudden are 2-0 in the West with both teams ahead of you having to come to TCF this year. The program needs this game. PJ needs this game. The fans need this game.

Jesus, this is way too melodramatic for my taste. From this post you would think the U was going to shut down the program if they lost the game. The program went 11-3, finished in the Top 10, and set several records or “firsts” last year.

I too am disappointed with the start this year, many recent performances against Iowa, and would love to immediately sustain the high levels of success from last year. However, I don’t think we are at a point where the program needs this game (or any individual game this season) to argue that it is still overall on the right track.

Spot on x2 EG9.

The Gophers should be 2-1 but...........Fleck needs this game as he needs to salvage this goofy season if there is hope to improve our recruiting.

Gophers win. That was their time. This is our time. Today we run with them. Today we pass with them, because we can. Now go out there and take it.
If we can run on Iowa (best run defense in the Big Ten), we should win. But I suspect our passing game will play a key role, more so than against Illinois, if we pull this game out.

I see what you're saying @matt ...... but sorry.

Football is very much a "what have you done for me this year" sport. Fleck would be the first person to tell you that last year means nothing for this year.

The 0-2 start, and the way it happened, has soured the progress made last season. Illinois has proven themselves to be Illinois, unlike Maryland.

In my heart, I agree a lot with what @EG#9 said. This is a huge game for Fleck. Show me what you got!

I'll take any victory, any how. I'd rather be lucky than good, tonight. Just win.

Thanks for the pep talk.

Nothing more embarrassing as a so-called "Minnesota fan".

NO, they need it. It is an important game for the program and are recruiting.

Do we have any confirmation on uniform colors?

At least we won't have to hear the very irritating "I-O-W-A" cheer for this one.

A small gift in the covid alternative timeline.

Everything I see on the Gopher Football Twitter is maroon on maroon so far - not sure on helmets though. But they also haven't done their official post showing the combo yet

Totally agree. This feels like the sort of post you see if your coach is in year 3 or 4 and hasn't gotten to a bowl game yet, and you've started 0-2 in conference, and you start to really question if he's gonna be any sort of improvement over the previous coach, when all you've seen is a few drives or one or two quarters where the team looked really strong, and you're trying to hold onto hope that there's more of that somewhere. Instead we're coming off of our best season in decades, and our coach was being mentioned for job openings like Florida State and USC earlier this same year. I don't follow it much anymore, but hasn't recruiting been on a generally upward trend? I mean this is a fairly big and important game that I would love to see us win, but I don't really think that the fate of the Fleck tenure or the next 5 years of the program's success or failure hangs in the balance on this one game.

Also, maybe I just have a different definition of what a rivalry is, but I never really understood the "this isn't a rivalry anymore" takes when one team goes on an extended winning streak. By that standard, Michigan/Ohio State, Oklahoma/Oklahoma State, Virginia/Virginia Tech, Washington/Oregon, and Army/Navy are not rivalry games. To me a rivalry is just two teams that mutually dislike each other, probably play each other frequently, and where they both consider winning that game to be a little extra important, regardless of whether their opponent actually has a good team that year or not. Until we get to a point where most people on both sides, or even just one side, don't consider beating the other to be any more meaningful than any other regular season conference game, then the rivalry is still a rivalry in my view. In that sense I think you could argue that Minnesota/Michigan or Ohio State/Illinois are not real rivalries, but I really don't think applies to our series with Iowa or Wisconsin. The fact that both fanbases likely despise PJ Fleck only fuels it more.

This is classic EG#9, I think it’s likely therapeutic to write these long doomsday posts.
2020 is a complete wildcard in my opinion. This season is an anomaly where we’ll be lucky to field a healthy team for the entire season. Anyone making program changing decisions over this next couple months is crazy.
