***OFFICIAL INDIANA AT MINNESOTA BIG TEN TEASE PORTION OF THE SCHEDULE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Under the context that a broken clock is correct twice a day, post #81 "What Should I Expect This Season?" :)

Also great use of bench fouls, Turner 7 min- 4 fouls, Grove 8 min- 4 fouls!
Agreed. Turner is going to be a valuable asset to this team despite what Torvik thinks. He should practice with the volleyball team and defend without ever touching the net. He can body up to Jacobsen, Cluff (PUR) and really help in his minutes. Good passer, rebounder and has a solid shooting range of 3 feet.

I was at the Indiana game in 1972 and last night's game I enjoyed it almost as much. It shows what a team can do with desire, good teamwork and a good coach. I look forward to this new season even though we will ne undermanned.

He needs to go on the Mo Walker diet....dropping 20 pounds would help so much with his agility and stamina.

Sure would be nice if Groves could give them any offense. His high school tapes (i know highlights) show him having 3 point range......right now he doesn't even peek at the basket when he's outside the lane. He was also a good FT shooter....I think that part is mental with him...

Yes, but they provided valuable breather minutes and they rebounded and played defense. They also had only 1 turnover among the three of them in a combined 21 minutes. Pretty good considering the team had 16 turnovers overall.
My point is that it was a really odd stat line, primarily because of the injury situation and short bench.
Definitely not a sustainable game plan, but they gutted that one out given the circumstances.

That's probably true. In this case, the five starters provided sufficient scoring by themselves but that won't always be the case. The defense was especially good last night and that kept Indiana's scoring down.

Help me understand the benefit of bench fouls.

That's a lot of fouls in a short time and helps the other team get into the bonus situation. Plus one more foul each and they are "benched'.

It was somewhat a tongue in cheek reference.

Grove and Turner are not rotation guys on a good team. So, you are stealing minutes to give your starters a break and to not pick up additional fouls when you are tired. If they could play solid physical defense without fouling, that would be ideal. I'd rather have them play physical and not give up automatic two's, then to be passive and an automatic bucket.

I hope in seasons to come, with some tourney success, that we will be 10 deep- in case of emergencies. That a Grove and a Turner would be players 11 and 12. You have to have success for players to pick the gophers and know they won't play barring injury, if they have the talent to play somewhere else. I'm talking Wisconsin, Michigan St. type success.
