***OFFICIAL GOPHERS VS MARYLAND IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

3 of 22 from behind the arc...no ball movement, bad shots and flat out missing

Just wasn't our day shooting the ball. 33% won't cut it against any team. Only 5 assists probably has something to do with this.

Mo played well. Loved his 10 boards. But we only got one rebound from the power forward position today.

Can't win when four critical ayers all have their worst game of the season. Give Maryland some credit I guess. They were much better

I think I'd trade the Dre's for Dorsey and Johnson at this point. Let's just get on with the youth movement.

Positives:
Mo "Williams" Walker looks like the best post player in the B1G
...
...
That's all I've got.

Negatives:
Dre Hollins is no where near 100% and likely won't be ever again in his Gopher career.
Dre Mathieu and Nate Mason both had poor games too, leaving Morris to try to carry our back court on his own.
Maryland absolutely picked our zone apart. We did better in man, but our zone usually gives us a good look and confuses some teams. Hopefully other coaches weren't taking too much note...

I'm not picking on him, he's played well. I just think he could have had 5-6 assists but passed them up to take a poor shot.

No doubt - but besides passing occasionally, he needs to shot fake and drive to the basket. He is a better driver, going to the basket with a chance to go to the line, than he is a pure shooter.

Time to regroup and take it to osu.

The bottom line outcome isn't disgraceful, but some of the play I saw was. Some of the turnovers and missed rebounding opportunities just make my head spin. Limit those types of things and shoot the way you can, and beating Maryland is possible.

All that said, Gophers have not faced defenses like these conference teams'. That steak of scoring 80 was a mirage.

This. There are a lot of things to point the finger at but the three guards should be the first place in my opinion. I'll add they went 0-8 from the 3 point line, didn't shoot a single free throw, had just 4 AST, just 4 steals, and 7 turnovers.

I really think fans will like McBrayer too. I see a lefty version of Mason in him!

We should take a page out of coach Izzo's rebounding practice. Bring in the football helmets and pads and let em have at it.

My positive for the day other than Mo - 32-29 Plus Minus stat for Buggs today. Small victories - I know.

Joey King with his second straight one rebound game. He does good things but it may be time for him to see a little more PT at the 3. As a PF he just doesn't cut it. They may have to start working Buggs or even Konate in at the 4 spot.

Keys to the game:
Horrible outside shooting and free throw shooting
Bad rebounding
Pitino stayed in the zone too long in the first half- digging the big hole we got into.

I didn't see anything about Maryland that tells me that we can't compete. It's on the Gophers to play better, execute better. At the beginning of this 4 game stretch- which was a really bad scheduling set up- I always felt that 2-2 was good enough to set up the rest of the season. Now we have to win the next two to get ourselves back in good shape. No reason that cannot happen.

Tough game all around. However, Gophers were on pace to lose by 30 early on and managed to make it competitive again. They held tough, even though it wasn't pretty.

Another valiant performance from the road warriors. I just posted this over on the hockey board, but the last few days have really sucked the wind out of my Gopher sails across the board in football, basketball, and hockey. And the Wild have been doing bad, and the Wolves look like they would lose to the Gophers (and I don't mean just the basketball team, I think Gopher hockey or football could beat the Wolves at hoops right now). Unless something gets turned around fast, this is going to be a miserable sports winter.

I thought the reffing was absolutely horrible today very inconsistent from even one call to another but especially between the 1st and 2nd half. Gophers were something like 3-22 from 3pt line today and I don't think they made 2 consecutive free throws all game and that definitely isn't gonna win you many games especially on the road. One of the few positives from today was the way Mo played and he was really the only player I thought played pretty well. The fact that even with some bad defensive mistakes and the horrible shooting we were pretty much right with Maryland for the whole game is a little encouraging to me as they're definitely a team I think we can play with and beat. Big game Tuesday night really need a win and need Mathieu and Hollins to play the way they are capable of and be leaders for this team.

The problem with a move like this is that Joey is extremely slow. He would not be able to guard, nor separate on offense from most B1G 3s. His rebounding is an issue, and I think cutting back on his minutes and giving Buggs/Konate more would be the necessary thing to do.

I noticed that Pitino went to the full court zone defense when buggs was in. Seemed to speed the game up and cause more turnovers. I'm all for more buggs minutes if we are gonna pressure defense. I think Pitino saw that we might be able to speed up even good guards into mistakes with that lineup.

What Buggs does is rebound from his position, which is more than what most players on this team can say.
