***OFFICIAL GOPHERS VS BUCKEYES BLACK OUT GAME THREAD!!!!!!!!***

Not calling a time out didn't bug me either. The first half effort was what got me. Still can't get over it. 0-2, desperately needing a win, at home, etc.

I never want to see those awful white uniforms either.

I'll take the black over the white though.

maroon or gold only please

Was really hoping that our first three games of conference play would yield something more fruitful than trying to come back.

I feel ya. Been a Gopher fan most of my life and have watched Gopher teams collectively be a disappointment since my fandom began. Just the way Minnesota conducts its athletic business.

Should not have gone to overtime - Hollins and Mason go 2 for 4 on late free throws which proved to do us in.

I would say the same thing, but because Amir Williams blew a wide-open layup with like 2 seconds to go.

Not that it matters, but I was just thinking about the layups the Gophers missed in regulation. In the first half Andre Hollins missed a layup off an in bounds play and I believe that Ohio State came down and hit a transition three. In the second half their were two possessions in a row where the Gophers combined to miss 3 layups (Hollins and Walker and someone else) and the second of those possessions ended in a transition "and 1" opportunity for Ohio State (missed the free throw). These stretches easily could have been Minnesota +6 and instead were Ohio State +5 an overall 11 point swing in a game that was tied at the end of regulation.

Obviously there were many other key moments in this game, but those are the type of missed opportunities that just can't happen against teams of similar talent.

^ This.

FREE THROW SHOOTING wins and loses games. Don't show me the stat that we shot 75% overall and that's good etc. etc. Fact is, in the last couple minutes of a tight game we simply can't have Hollins or Mason missing a free throw, period. You need to hit those. Both of them.

That you got because your freshmen superstar fumbled the ball away and landed right in Williams lap.

Team showed good fight in 2nd half

Nice back handed compliment.

This is the same bunch that lost at home to Iowa. No way were they going to continue that hot shooting in the second half. The only question was whether we could step on their throat and close the deal when it got tight, just like Purdue did to us at their house. We should have been able to do it to Ohio State. But unlike us in Purdue, they didn't totally self destruct, and in the last 5 minutes every time there was an opening for us to snatch the game we pissed it away. If "fight" means we tried harder than in the first half, then ok, that's just great.

This team lacks "it," which is something we kind of already knew. However, I did think that we'd find it at home.

The second he stopped going to the hole was when he passed it. Can't call a timeout if you don't have possession of the ball.

No, he flattened out his pace and direction to head towards the sideline with about 4 seconds to go. I would have liked to see a time out at that point because nothing good was going to happen with Deandre dribbling into 2 defenders and Joey King, who has shown to be a shell of himself in crunch time. I know this is 100% hindsight bias, but that's how I would have coached it. If Deandre went to the rim, that's likely our best option with a dribble drive and a hopeful kickout for a possible game winning 3. The second Deandre looked to be heading towards Joey I'm calling a timeout and see what I can draw up with 4 seconds left.

Its definitely not an enviable situation, but that's how I would have played it.

Bottom line is our 3 best players were pretty darn bad in crunch time. We had a 1st year JUCO make a boneheaded mistake on the defensive end, and a freshman make a boneheaded mistake on the offensive end. It's easy to see where Pitino says "we are almost there" as you don't expect those types of plays when you think about game planning. You're expecting Seniors to play mistake free level headed ball, and you expect the 2 youngsters you are relying on to play up a notch. NONE of that happened in OT and for a good part of the game.

A loss is unacceptable period. Season is on the line, time to put a half together and save it. There are no silver linings or moral victories here it's win or play meaningless games for two or three months.

Just saw this. Think you missed my point. After the awful first half I was more concerned about the Gophers' (lack of) effort and body language than I was the end result. They did show guts in the second half -- which is better than the alternative -- but a loss is still a loss. Was not looking for nor do I want moral victories.
