*** OFFICIAL GOPHERS-PENN STATE GAME THREAD ***

Nelson was VERY impressive in that drive. His ability to escape the sack and gain 6 yards on that broken play led directly to that TD, along with on-target short passes. The deep ball to Wolitarski was also right there, no INT called, though. Nelson looking like the team leader he's becoming.

It's crazy how Kirkwood was our workhorse last year but ever since that injury he's looked pretty bad... feel sorry for the guy...

He's probably trying too hard. He's not seeing the hole, that's for certain.

Anyone know why Bak is out? Bush with the start and Mowins said he was out. Also, it appears D. Jones is playing more and more weekly. I like he and Woli.

Bak has a concussion.

The silver lining is that in scoring relatively quickly, Penn St's defense has to go right back on the field - they're gonna be tired early in this game.

Not sure why a guy like Legania started that drive. The defense had played a total of 5 plays until that point. I have to believe Hageman and Boticceli didn't need a break already.

#4 D Jones blocking on Nelson's 15 yd bootletg left behind Foster Bush was fantastic.

No PI on Wolitarsky was garbage.

Nice to see them shake it off & get that 3rd down on the next play. Shows maturity.

Nelson took a big shot on 3rd down after eluding the sack & then he threw for the big 1st down to Maxx on 4th. Gutsy player, he was hurting.

Some real ugly D there. Yuck. Nothing like losing all of the momentum.

Man Roland Johnson let his man wash him right down the line on the TD. Gotta play better on the D line.

Not as physical as some teams and have to run the quicker hitters...

Nice 1st quarter, overall. PSU got the ball first and the Gophers ended up with a 3-point lead plus the ball to end the quarter. Still, a stop on that last possession could have got PSU out of their game, and instead it's looking like it's going to be a tough one.

Sage point.
