Ugly first half. Ugly last minute. Let's have one ugly post game thread.

That has to be a gut punch to the players after it looked like they were gonna bail out a win on this one. All they can do is go watch Selection Sunday, hope their name is called, and go out and try to finish this season on a positive note. They can look back at all the garbage all they want, but the only thing they can control now is their next game.

Fitting end to a really disappointing regular season. The experts seem to think they are in the tournament for sure....they don't deserve it but guess we will see what happens on Sunday

probably a 11 or 12 seed, but I agree, this team doesn't deserve it.

This loss should seal Tubby's fate. The game mirrored the last dozen games in terms of ineptness. The Gophers should not get a big dance invite and should decline the NIT. This miserable season needs to be over.

Thankfully Tubby pulled Austin and Trevor for the last 14 min of the first half so they didn't foul out... SARCASM. Trevor finished with 3 fouls, Austin with 2. Pulling people with 2 fouls just doesnt make sense. 3 I understand, 2 you are just hurting yourself.

This team getting a bid is a travesty.

It's a fitting end that we lost due to one of those incredibly difficult in-bounds plays. Do you think in the past 6 years that Tubby has ever had the team practice such a thing? Nah, just throw it into the backcourt and start over.......every time.

It's not often that a team or fan base wouldn't have one single reason to complain for not getting a bid. I think most would say they got what they deserved.

Totally agree. Points count just as much at the end of the half as the end of the game. So why save a guy for the end? Tubby makes no sense. Then, once again, his team has problems inbounding the ball. It's time for Tubby to become a TeleTubby and take Vitale's job.

I said it in another thread, but if he leaves them both in and they pick up their 3rd foul in the first half, people would have been all bent out of shape about that. Tubby deserves a ton of blame for today but that's not one of them in my opinion.

At least we didn't role over and die in this game. We could have easily done that. But for real just rebound the ball on 1 of 2 misses and we probably win. Make a few extra free throws. Get one of those charge calls to go our way.

It really is amazing to watch most teams inbound the ball with no issues and yet time and time again we can't get the ball in play or really struggle to do so. Inbound plays fall on coaching because that is something they can design and address.

Ugly and sloppy. Boy this team sure has those two things down cold don't they! At least I didn't have to watch much of Coleman in the 2nd half. I think Illinois got some generous calls in the 2nd half, but we just can't seem to play with any sustained effort. I am a die hard Gopher BB fan but I really deep down don't know if I want to seem them get a NCAA bid, I don't think I could stand watching anymore. Enough is enough!! Please Tubby, just leave, please. His pregame comment was telling, he said he knew he was ready but he didn't know if the players were ready, what kind of a comment is that. Tubby it is YOUR JOB to have the players ready. This has been a painful debacle to watch!!

I can't wait to see our guys hopping around and celebrating like idiots when "Minnesota" shows up on the selection show. It will just add to the embarrassment of this team's players and coaching staff.

The people who would've complained about that would've been wrong to do so. There is no reason to arbitrarily foul your own players out of a half. Particularly with the ineptitude shown by our bench, you've got to role the dice.

Yeah, exactly. I said this in another thread. I understand why you would pull them, but at five minutes left in the half, while we were getting thumped, I think he could have put them back in and assume neither or maybe one picks up a third.

At least we got some quality minutes from Oto and Mo!! We could have used those points at the end where Mo got torched on defense twice in a row

You guys are better fans than I; I don't know how any of you can stomach watching that mess. I heard the halftime score on the radio from the car - 16 points in the first half? Not for Andre, not for Austin, Mbakwe, or Williams, but for the entire team? - I then watched the last ten minutes of the game.

I just want this season to be overwith, Tubby to be gone, and someone else to come in. If we do get into the tourney, I have no expectation of winning even a first round game, which means action could be taken more quickly. If we go to the NIT - oh my gosh, this mess could go on for weeks.

My thoughts exactly. I don't think there is a more defined place in basketball for the coach to shows his involvement than with the out of bounds play. The fact that we have been so horrible all year on these plays is pretty damning for Tubby. Yes indeed it was fitting.

Feel bad for Austin - he did some nice things, just barely stepped on that line.

The biggest thing I'd point to, again, would be roster utilization. Just odd. Really strange.

I think it is to the point where fans don't even realize the rotation anymore. If it was normal we'd be shocked. Granted, there is no normal at this point.

The inbound plays (putrid) and the fact that the only weapon they had who could beat us at the end did is very telling.
We had them reeling, should have put them away, but we couldn't.

Our use of the bench is strange indeed. Horrible way to end it.

I think they should be able to do whatever the hell they want if they get selected. We're all fans, and this is their career. For guys like Andre Ingram, this will be his only chance to play in the tourney. Making fun of them for being excited is just stupid.

Either way, I doubt they will be jumping up and down like crazy when they are selected.

Bench points:
MN 3
Ill 4

Gophers played 11 players, Illinois 8

I agree and I'm not saying I agree with the decision, but for every example of a player playing with two fouls in the first half and not fouling out, there's probably several examples of players who did end up fouling out. Some people will just criticize Tubby for anything and everything.

@gophersnow: Tubby on Mbakwe and Austin Hollins sitting most of first half with foul trouble: "Looking back, I probably should have played them both."

What makes me mad is this happened a few games ago when Trevor picked up his 2nd early, we got down by 20 as he sat the entire half. Tubby dealt with this recently and still made the same decision, which he now says is the wrong decision.

Go Gophers!!

I'd rather see them jumping around than another Gatorade bath anytime in my life.

You guys can whine and complain about inbounds plays all you want, but the game should never have come down to that last sequence. They were -12 in turnovers. MINUS TWELVE. Effort all around wasn't good until the 2nd half...when it needs to be there the whole game.

Definitely worth noting that the team played much, much better as a whole when Coleman was on the bench.
