Indeed it does. To those who say that Pitino should be given another year because everyone knew this would be a rebuilding year, I ask: Should a Minnesota coach (especially one with little successful history) be given a pass to field a team this bad even in a rebuilding year?
Making a high percentage of free throws is less important than hitting 3's, hitting field goals, and getting to the line a lot. Obviously it matters, but there are other factors which matter more.
You should be able to win the majority of your games against mid-majors though. You are or atleast should be recruiting big ten athletes after all.You can't win with freshman unless your Duke or KY. Have patience Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I was of the mind Pitino should get another year no matter how this year plays out. Now I have some doubt about that.
Still plenty of time to improve this year but what amount of conference wins will it take for Pitino to be guaranteed another year? 6? Hard to say at this point.

Need an AD to make a coaching change. If you hire an AD and he/she is attached to some slam dunk hire, then maybe something happens this year. I think he's pretty safe for next year almost regardless of record.
Won't be counting on freshman near as much next year......not even closeWhat about next year? Probably counting on those freshmen just as much as this years class.
This board has two groups of people. Those who want Gopher coaches gone at the first sign of trouble and those who will ride the titanic down to the bottom of the ocean because "we need to give them more time".
This isn't the "first" sign of trouble.

Just too many guys who didn't contribute much when they got on the floor in any aspect of the game. Buggs and Konate are the 2 big ones to me. Neither did much if anything on the offensive end, they each had a few turnovers, and both were awful on the defensive end. Mason being in foul trouble definitely hurt as he is one of the more steady contributors. Even looking at Morris who had 20+ points, he had some real bad turnovers, missed some very good looks in taking probably the most shots on the floor, and wasn't very good at all on the defensive end. The bright spot for me was Murphy again and McBrayers play in the 2nd half when he played more aggressive. Looking forward to guys like Coffey, Curry, Hurt, Lynch, and Fitzgerald next year as most already look like upgrades over guys they will be replacing.

I don't think so. Don't see the freshman averaging 60 minutes a game next year.
I expect them all to contribute and Coffey to probably start maybe not right away but at least by conference play. I think we could see Curry and Hurt as the primary backups at the SF and PF spot. The thing I really like about this class is they all have shown a very high basketball IQ and they are versatile guys who fill up the stat sheet which in most cases is something missing from the guys they will be replacing.I don't think so. Do you not realize that this is a pointless distinction? Do you think it matters to a retiree whose social security check represents 1/3rd of his income that those funds are not the major source of his support? The final score does not differentiate among the sources of points.

Agree that Hurt might not play, but I definitely see Curry playing a lot backup to MurphyI don't see Hurt contributing a lot next year. We have 6 regular contributors coming back (Buggs, Mason, Konate, McBrayer, Murphy and Dorsey), two transfers who will play and Coffey. That is 9 guys without mentioning Curry and Hunt. I just don't see enough minutes available for Curry and Hunt to both play significant minutes.
+1. Even the 06-07 team had fired Monson and was playing hard for Coach Mo by now. I think it's the least interested I've ever been.
I think GW's original point, which was being mocked in the post I quoted, was that making a high percentage of free throws does not correlate to winning more games, which seems to be generally true. The NBA champions from 1994 to 2014 had an average ranking of 16.8 out of 30 teams in free throw percentage, so in the average NBA season, the champions will be a slightly below average free throw shooting team.
