***OFFICIAL CENTRAL MICHIGAN AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I gotta give credit to some of the fans who haven’t given hope on this team. The one guy who said he’s still holding out hope we go dancin.

I need a little more of he’s got. Maybe not as much as him, but a little more.

I didn't say we are going dancing. This style of play frustrates me every game and reason to think another below average season coming unless we find some accelerators. :ROFLMAO:

But that is what Ben has installed and we hope. I don't agree with it, but it is what it is. I would rather see more up-tempo offense in basketball and in football, but haven't seen it yet with Ben and PJ. Not sure it's a talent thing for basketball as just a few months ago many were pumped and excited thinking we got excellent talent. Pretty sure most of them if playing against us with some of the non conference teams would do well against us.

It's cool you have optimism. The football team just lost at the wire to the #4 team in the country.
The basketball team just squeaked by the #183 team in KenPom and both teams looked bewildered.
I'm not sure the comparison is appropriate.
And, I'm not sure what you see to suggest we will be within 10 points of any Big Ten team?
17 Big Ten teams are ahead of us in the Ken Pom ratings. 11 of them are in the top 40.
Hard to see anyone but Garcia go beast mode and Garcia will have the other teams best defender and 4 other guys shading his way.
I know not everyone loves PJ and he has flaws but the gulf between him and Ben as coaches is massive. Yet it seems like PJ has more people calling for his head than Ben does. I don't get it.

I know Gopher basketball won't miss me, I'm not important in a silo as an individual fan, yadayada. But I suspect the small percentage of supporters from 10-20 years ago who are still even remotely checked in to the program are like me:

This team is not nearly interesting enough of a watch, not nearly good enough to watch, and does not provide any possibility of hope for any amount of meaningful success to continue to tune in.

Last year's team was a fun enough product (even if it was the 5th year in a row failing to make the tournament), so I wanted to at least give this team a chance but its just been a train wreck. I'll check back in at the start next year. Hopefully with a new HC too.

I’m being brutally honest here.

Right now I don’t see a single Big Ten team the Gophers could beat. 18th with a bullet.
Have you seen Washington or USC play? Both ranked below the Gophers on KenPom. I haven't checked this week, but last week BartTorvik still had the Gophers projected as 7-13 in the Big Ten. I've seen some ugly box scores from Northwestern, Nebraska, and Rutgers. I am not watching much college ball and I think the eye test probably tells more than the stats I am looking at.

It's a bad sign that many people are pining for the return of Mike Mitchell and calling him our second best player (he very well might be) when he was clearly the 5th best starter on a team that just barely avoided weakling Wednesday.

I checked both kenpom and torvik this morning - both sites now have the Gophers below Washington and USC. Torvik has them at 6-14, but only one conference game where they’re currently favored - home against Washington on Feb. 1.

Wichita State is ranked only a few spots ahead of the Gophs and is less than a point favorite for Thursday. This is a coin toss game. The attitude of the entire season kinda rests on the outcome.

Ok. Wouldn't Caleb Williams playing potentially be a positive? Very odd response by you.
You are not asking me- but he has to be looked at. I know Patterson scored points last night but he is not good. He grinds the offense to a halt. It is just a total head scratcher to me that he still initiates the offense. I would guess we have had close to 25% of our possessions either end up in a shot clock violation or a desperation shot because we started our offense with 12-15 seconds to go. The whole thing looks different when Asuma gets the ball, but Ben has him in the corner.

Our rebounded for the game…Femi has got to go!, he is terrible. Start Asuma…give Williams more minutes in place of Femi

Gotta get minutes out of another big

But……..Ben Johnson is a terrible head coach

I watched 0 seconds but nice to Asuma fill up the box score a bit
Yep. If I was a coach who might/will get fired because the product is bad and uninteresting, I think I'd take a chance on letting the reins off of the kid who has the highest potential to run the team at a pace that might produce some offense and some level of fun. 6 points, 6 assists and 6 boards and he can do a lot more once he gets confidence.

What is Ben going to do when Mitchell and Cochran return? This is a golden opportunity to let Asuma run the team and find out what he could do. I hardly care that we won last night as we showed zero potential. I'd rather lose the game and find out where the potential lies than stick with the plow horses.

Didn't she actually improve a lot and become a serviceable broadcaster who showed decent potential as the season went on. I remember a female color announcer that, by the end of the season, seemed to have done her homework and was steadily improving on her ability to articulate some of the things she was seeing fairly concisely. We talking about the same girl?

Femi is a situational player- defense. I'd be thinking Asuma, Mitchell, Cochran (hoping he is good), Garcia and Edmonds or Fox. Frank Mitchell is a beast but he is too slow at this level, can't get a shot off and opposing centers are going to go right over the top of him.
No matter what lineup we put out there, there are going to be some warts. I'd rather go with some athleticism.

You're going to need Edmonds come conference play. Ten minutes the last three games is mind boggling.
He has showed promise of becoming a poor man's Pharrel Payne. I just don't get anything about what Ben is doing. I don't know if he has made some promises in recruiting that he feels he can't go back on or what.

To turn the ball over and miss free throws?
Have you seen Frank shoot free throws? Frank has had 8 Turnovers in 70 minutes, Edmunds 4 turnovers in 68 minutes. Both are horrid FT shooters. Frank is no doubt a better rebounder but too short to defend in the Big Ten at the 5. I think Fox is the better option than Frank if we are moving away from Edmonds.

Sure have. He was also the best player on the team yesterday in the 1st half and things immediately went south when he went out of the game.

He's our 2nd best player by miles.

To be fair, I was unable to watch the first half, only saw the second half. I'll take your word for it on that. On other nights so far, I just haven't seen it with him.

I didn't see it with Frank either, before the first half last night.

Well, I paid for a month of BigTen+ to see four games. So far I wish I hadn’t. Man, this time is hard to watch. This is Monson’s final year bad.
